I always question if Arthur and Cook can hang in Harrisons world. Harrison is SO MUCH more proven than all these domestic guys who are supposedly in his league. Neither Cook or Arthur are that talented. They have good technique and skill. For them to overcome their lack of talent they need great technique, great skill and a great mind. Arthur is in the same situation next week, fingers crossed he can overcome it. Hopefully he can show us some hidden talent like he is stronger or harder hitting than we thought.
I never thought Cook was good enough to beat Harrison and I didn't think he'd beat Luaveno either(in fact I won a few quid betting aginst Cook) One look at Cook's record show the best fighter he's beaten is probably Dazzo Williams and to my mind, that's nowhere near sufficient grounding to successfully fight for a world title. Boxing News did a good article on Luaveno recently and he sounded as if he'd be a handful, and he was far to good for Cook
Exactly David my good man, glad you won yourself some cash, although I would have never bet against one of my own:deal diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I suppose. As for Luaveno, Im disappointed ESB went down as I had a big conversation about him a while back with the much loved wee mexican fella Freddywak, cos Harrison was rumoured to be fighting him. I have two Luaveno fights, but I decided to keep quiet about his fight with Cook as I seen Luaveno as the american version of Nicky Cook, flashy record but untested. However, when it comes to american prospect vs British prospect, 9 out of 10 times the american prospect will win, due to superior training, sparring etc. My gloat was just on a personal level as a certain James Wilson couldnt get enough of telling me how Nicky Cook would have spanked Scott Harrison for as long as I can remember. Im enjoying his silence now, cos thats how I roll:smoke
Luaveno reminded me of a certain Carlos Palomino when he took John H Stracey apart with some really destructive body shots. (For those "young" enough to remember!!!
Hey Mark, are you an old timer? Just joking my man, welcome to ESB brit forum:good (although if you are a jock hater I reserve the right to officially withdraw my warm welcome:deal ) end brackets:smoke
Yes agreed, but Carlos is getting on a bit now pal!!! And yes i am an old boy, but the fittest old boy you'll ever meet!!!
So just how old ARE you Mark? Come on, spill the beans:deal I am 34 years old btw. So dont be shy & tell me your age, & dont worry, cos I wont tell anyone, honest
No problem pal, 52 years young now, but I train every day and don't feel (or look) anything like it. I took some good advice some years ago from an old pro regarding personal maintenance and it works. Your body is like a car, look after it, service it etc. and it'll run for years and years, abuse it and your ****ed. My old fella is 73,in the gym every morning for his workout, doesn't smoke but likes a beer occasionally, had over 100 amateur bouts and you could count his losses on two hands, and is a fit, feisty ol bugger. I intend to maintain the same work ethic.
So what your all basically saying is, that Harrison would of manhandled Cook and would of beaten Luaveno? I'm a big fan of Harrison's. I hated watching him put a beating on McCulough as I liked him too, but he's a terrific fighter and such a shame things turned out for him like they did. How far could Harrison of got, had he kept his career (and mind) on track?
Hey, cheers for the honest post Mark, & your fitness advice is good. I should know, cos my fitness is shocking just now cos Im boozing & smoking all the time! Im planning to come off & hit an Atkins diet & fitness programme to get back in shape, but as I hve an addictive personality, its hard to give up the good things in life.
Good to hear that Dunky, nothing wrong with enjoying the good things in life, but it's all about moderation, good food, good wine and a good women.....a great recipe, although the smoking is a definite no no. Use you addictive personality to your advantage, get addicited to a fitness and lifestyle routine, I've visited too many good men in hospital who were old before their time due to alcohol and tobacco abuse, and I've no plans to join them. All the best pal.
