Richard Schaefer is interested in speaking to Frank Warren about a fight between WBO Super Featherweight Champion Nicky Cook and their newly acquired fighter Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero. Do Golden Boy Promotions see this as a stepping stone for their newbie to get a title. As much as it'd be a good fight to watch Guerrero would have too much for Cook, the Londoner just isn't at that level for me.
I would be surprised if Warren let this one happen, because it could find a home on the Hatton vs Pacquiao card..... Not only does Warren hate Hatton, he needs all the big names he can get for the regular PPV shows he stages in order to retain Amir Khan. Cook will be needed for February, on the card of Enzo Mac vs Banks - of which Khan will *cough* be a part.
Agreed. If Cook were to fight someone as dangerous as Guerrero I can't see it happening until FW has run out of options. Cook looked out of his depth against Luevano - despite showing plenty of heart - I could seeing it being something like that. I don't like to mention it but with Mrs Guerrero's illness her husband is an even more dangerous opponent every time he steps into the ring.
If Guerrero's power travels up he will stop Cook, even if Cook does feel healthier at SFW. However, Cook won't make it easy. He doesn't have a huge amount of power but Cook is a decent boxer and won't make it easy. Don't be fooled by the Luevano fight, he's better than that.
Can't see it personally. Guerrero would have far too much for Cook and Warren knows it. There's no way he's going to let Cook lose that WBO belt, unless it's to Kevin Mitchell.
Cook was dead at FW, more dead than DLH @ 147. Nicky hadn't made the weight in 18 months, was inactive etc etc - couldn't eat or drink for the better part of 2 days. For 130, he had breakfast and a drink before the weigh in..... according to Boxing Monthly. Cook has a decent chin and plenty of balls, but is vulnerable to the body - perhaps because as previously mentioned he was dead at 126. He is a good all-round boxer, not especially strong or weak in any particular area, blessed with decent power. A solid belt holder, no more, no less.
