Nope, he just got saved by a ref who knew he was up against a real fighter who would've made him eat canvas during the later rounds. That is the only bull**** part of the fight - the bull**** stoppage of a laze overhand right that did not even connect properly.
I agree that Fury's got excellent potential, but do you disagree that is was a bull**** stoppage? (note: I only saw the last round). The only way this fight was "better" than a Klitschko fight was because it was more competitive, and that's just because the Klitschkos have become so great that they rarely even get hit or even get their hair mussed - the greatest heavyweights of all time.
Was thoroughly enjoying the fight until it got stopped prematurely. I felt as though I had been robbed of what was gonna be an exciting end to an exciting fight. Tyson Fury looked an improved fighter and I do think he would've KO'd Firtha but I guess it is possible he could've been rocked himself coming in. Bottom line is it shouldn't have ended the way it did.
Firtha showed heart but his conditioning sucked. By the time he hurt Fury he'd already punched himself out. Too bad. Fury was looking great up till the 3rd but ended up taking too many chances and paid the price. bull**** stoppage. Fury said something to the ref twice during the round. I'll assume he was complaining about the holding or telling the ref the dude has had enough, but given the nature of the stoppage it didn't look good. The video angle isn't great but it doesn't look like that final punch hurt Firtha.
This goes to show how much better american journeymen like Firtha, Polley, Purrity etc are than euro/gb journeymen like Bydenko/McDermott etc are When guys like Fury are nearly KTFO by Cclass american fighters it definitely goes as a learning exp. I mean....lucky for Fury that the fight was stopped. Waldimir had Purrity in way worse shape in their fight, and the ref let em go....we all know the end result. Not saying that Firtha would've pulled it off, or Fury woulda gassed, but the way it was looking, that if the fight had progessed, another few hard shots, and Firtha mighta got lucky like the Boss. Fury had better learn from this, or he's going to walk right into a fight with a guy like Mitchell, Rodgriguez, or Wach, and be KTFO in the first couple rounds.
:huh I'm not sure why you quoted my post to make that point. I never said it was a great stoppage. It was so-so, by British standards. (poor by most other places')
Controversial counting in round 4 and a premature TKO in 5. If that had happen in Germany, hole forum would be screaming robbery. Fury is one entertaining HW in any case, I´d love to see him fight Perez/Helenius/Dimitrenko.
Ch5 ****ed it up for me Interviewing that gypsy at ringside pre-fight was the highlight though so no complaints
