There are fighters the size of Valuev in every era and they always get beaten by a top contender before they get into title contention. The only thing that makes Valuev different is that he fought in an era of multiple titles and was managed by Don King. How dose Marciano Valuev play out? Valuev fights a lot of bums and establishes a minor reputation. Then he steps up in class and gets outpointed by Nino Valdez or Bob Baker. He never earns a shot at Marciano.
Janitor said it correctly yet, every era has his own giant like Valuev now, just look at Valuev´s record, against his 3 best opponents he lost one clearly, one was at best a draw for him (against Ruiz), and Donald was robbed against him, if Valuev fights some other elite fighters (Ibragimov, Klitschko, Povetkin, Chambers, Byrd, etc.) he will get beaten too...
Who knows how fast Jesse Owens would have been if he had ran on the same fast tracks and if they had filled him up to his ears with growth hormone, steroids and God only knows what else they use today? Tennis players from different eras are even harder to compare because racket technology has had such a huge impact on how the game is being played. Not disputing Federer's obvious greatness, but he plays with a snowshoe-sized racket with a huge trampoline effect. Tilden played with a small wooden racket with a tiny sweet spot. The sweet spot of Federer's racket is as big as Tilden's entire racket used to be. Tennis champions were the best of their own time and would be progressively less effective the further you remove them from their own era. Marciano vs Valuev is easier IMO. Rocky destroys Valuev for the simply reason that Valuev is a slow and clumsy fighter without punching power who hasn't even beaten anyone of the best in his own all-time poor era for heavyweights. Marciano destroys him IMO, no matter the weight difference. Marciano by late TKO.
Based on what if...... Plus you can't compare Ibragimov,Klitschko,Byrd to Marciano. Wanna play the game 'what if'? If Marciano would face those three fighters he'd lose bigtime.
Sure, but Marciano has got power. Those arm punches and lazy jabs from Valuev wouldn't be enough to keep Marciano off of him.
I consider Valuev to be alot like George Foreman in his latter years. Arm punches and lazy jabs, yes, but with surprising power. At the same time, slow and easy to hit if the opponent has the right game plan (ie, when Tommy Morrison boxed and ran instead trying to exchange blows). I'd go with Marciano by decision....
Good comparison, only that i think Valuev, despite his size, does not have much power. Maybe it's because he throws arm punches mostly. I'm not impressed by Foreman's power during his comeback either: with the exception of Moorer, he didn't KO anyone.
Valuev has a good chin for sure, but Chagaev tried to out slick and counter Valuev, not knock him out. I think Rocky hits as hard as Chagaev, and has a better work rate and body attack. While Valuev has a huge size advantage here, he is not the bigger puncher. He is slower, and not exactly hard to hit. Valuev dispite his monstrous body is really a finesse fighter who perfers to use his jab and box. Brawling is not Valuev's bag. It is Marciano's. I think Rocky wins this fight via decison or late round TKO.
There are two possible scenarios here,Rocky gets dsqd for continually having his head up the leg of Valuevs trunks,or Valuev kills Marciano Rocky nails the Russian with his SQ,the giant topples forward ala Rex Layne, straight on top of Rocky and fatally flattens the Rock.
