Rocky would have to fight very smart here, getting in and out, looking to counter and take advantage of Valuevs lack of speed. Valuev seems to suffer from gigantism, even his chin/head is unbelievably thick. He was staggered against a big puncher in Haye, but giants do age quicker, I think Valuev is very tough for anyone to hurt let alone knock out
Marciano would beat the **** out of Haye, look at the trouble Fargomanni gave Haye, Marciano 3rd round KO
no he would just brutalise his rib cage and then throw his signature uppercuts to the head, Haye threw only 8 punches a round while running around the ring in the Valuev fight, Marciano would throw about 50 a round while constantly pressuring :deal
Sounds about right ... I think Valuev has a horrible time hitting Rocky and Rocky hits the heavy bag for 12 rounds ..
exactly Marciano's head movement is underated, and Valuev got nothing to keep Rocky of him, Marciano could do what he wanted without fear of Valuev's power.
Rocky Marciano was a short heavyweight who fought short, thereby using his height to his advantage. This advantage would be even more pronounced against a 7 foot giant. Much is said lately about tall fighters fighting tall, but little is said about short fighters fighting short. That can be very troubling to a tall man. Nikolay would have a terrible time with Rocky. Rocky would be swarming him and Nikolay would have to punch way down to hit back at a crouching, bobbing, and weaving target that would keep stinging him to the body. The urge to stoop over to punch back would be nearly impossible to resist. Then Rocky's right would find the mark. Nikolay would be grabbing at the air over Rocky's head trying to clinch. If he tried to lean over to put his weight on Rocky, he'd take a hard right in the face. Nikolay would be a big man, stumbling around and being tormented by a much smaller man who could really hit hard. That would be a pitiful sight. It wouldn't be a pretty fight, but Rocky would win it...in my opinion.
This is a fantastic post. Valuev isn't a Wlad or Lewis either, he doesn't use his height nearly as well and has often been caught on the chin by much shorter fighters while leaning forward to throw a punch. Sorry, had to take a break from the Tyson/Valuev clowning and compliment good serious analysis.
I see Marciano outworking him and pounding his body all night. I think Marciano might prove to be too short for Valuev to effectively punch. I would pick Marciano by UD, or possibly by TKO with Valuev deciding he didn't need to take any more shots to the liver and retiring between rounds.
I think that Valuev would loose to any top 30 all time heavyweight. He poses some inherant stylistic problems due to his physical advantages but a great heavyweight would be expected to navigate round them.
