It seems to be Locche week so here's another thread about him.

Nicolino Locche & Bruno Arcari, two light welterweight champions who for some reason never got to fight each other. Both ended their careers with impressive records on paper, Locche with 117 wins and only 4 losses, Arcari with 70 wins and only 2 losses. Locche went 8 years unbeaten from 1964-1972, Arcari's two early losses were due to injuries. Arcari was Italian while the Argentinian Locche was supposedly of Italian descent.

Locche was really the "linear" champ, since Paul Fuji world light welterweight champion Sandro Lopopolo but had been stripped of the WBC version of the title "for breach of contract" before taking on Locche. Arcari won the title from Pedro Adigue Jr who had beaten Adolph Pruitt to win the vacant title.

Arcari and Locche fought several common opponents, the results being the following:

    Locche SD Domingo Corpas
    Arcari KO10 Corpas

From what I've read Corpas collapsed without being hit after an even 10 rounds.

    Locche UD10 Antonio Ortiz
    Arcari DQ8 Ortiz

Ortiz DQ'd for headbutting against Arcari in a fight Arcari was dominating. Locche's schooling of Ortiz can be seen on youtube.

    Locche UD10 Adigue Jr
    Arcari UD15 Adigue Jr

    Locche UD15 Joan Henrique
    Arcari UD15 Henrique

    Locche UD10 Everaldo Costa Azevedo
    Arcari UD15 Azevedo

Overall Locche had the better resume but could Arcari's southpaw style have bothered Locche as Corpas's did?

Any thoughts on who would have won? Any additional information on these two?

    Some film of Arcari:

Great post. I don't know, though.

Don't know much about Arcari to be honest, but frankly from watching that clip it seems his calculated approach and patience would trouble Locche a little.

Watching the footage is interesting, because he's a come forward fighter that seems to like to counter. This might trouble Locche... or it could play in his hand. Locche looks to you to throw but he can shoot off and score on him, and then maybe leave Arcari in the dust after he starts swinging. Interesting to ponder, though.

I think Locche was clearly the more talented fighter of the two, however i could certainly see Arcari's minimalist cutie, one-two orientated style making for a close tough fight. That straight left down the pipe would be a good weapon for him, though i would like his chances more if he had a better jab.

Got to say though, Arcari vs Adigue is one of the most tedious, ponderous fights i've ever seen.
