https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/50215864 Not sure what to make of this sorry episode. Ego trip? Publicity stunt? Were the ticket sales dreadful? I'm glad its over anyway.
It was a terrible idea from the get-go. If I want to watch Nigel Benn I'll just head over to YT and watch a prime Benn in action in some of the great battles he was involved in.
I knew there was no way this **** was happening. Most likely Benn got in the ring to spar and got lit up and battered by some stiff euro bum ranked 180 in the world and came to his senses. Nothing against Benn he was a good fighter but after 23 years it's done.
Probably dawned on him that Sakio Bika would of beaten him easily. These boxing board of controls need to be on the same page as the British board wouldn’t allow it but the British and Irish one did lol.
Seems like he didn't fully come to understand the plant based diet properly, he was meant to eat it but more likely he smoked it!! Glad it is off BTW what a stupid thing to consider doing in the first place at his age.
Poor sales, or as the other guy said, he probably got lit up like a Christmas tree by some 5-65 journeyman in sparring. I highly doubt that it's off because of an injury. He would have rescheduled if that were the case, most likely.
He does have a chance... for the right amount of money someone can unscrew one of the ringlights above Bika's corner, as "accidents" do happen in boxing. Other than that, this is very ill advised.
I am really not sure thats the case. Initially sure, but he'd only get Nige mad. Benn going warpspasm on him wont be a pleasant sight.
Problem with both shoulders allegedly. Glad the fight is off although I admit I would have had an interest in it had it gone ahead. Combat sports are too dangerous to play at. They’re too dangerous when you’re in your prime really!
This usually happens and it's for the better. It would have ended like Ruddock's final fight or worse....
