http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgcl9qLqX5I Would have been a great fight. Nigel Benn one of my all time favs...but I think Jones was totally ruthless at that time. He was a mover which Nigel didnt like. I fancy Roy Ko in 11 with some weird unorthodox **** after running for 10 rnds. I say running because Roy was cautious after Mclellan tragedy. Shame Benn got whooped by Malinga who Roy than destroyed in 6. Amazing ROy has been around so long still fighting...Benn retired 12 Years AGO!!!! ROY give it up....lol
gerald and roy were friends i believe, and roy would never want to see him after the fight with Benn. Maybe a bit of psychology going on here? I think if they had a fight roy could win over 12, i dont think he would have gone for the kill, benn would still have a punchers chance.
Saw an interview with Geralds sister some years back and she said that Roy told her that he couldnt visit him until he was retired, but that Roy sent them money that helped keep his medical care going.
The comment that Benn made about Jones being the one fighter that puts the fear of god in him speaks volumes to how great a fighter Roy was in his prime. I know fans NOW like to say that Jones ducked every fighter ever but if you read between the lines of what fighters say about the guy you would know that they werent all that excited about fighting the guy..I mean we have know heard like comments from Calzaghe, Benn, Hopkins, and even Toney.
Bernard has said he feels Roy is the only fighter who has truly beaten him. Toney just uses the excuse he was not prepared as to why Roy whipped him.
Great clip great fighter, cheers:good Massive shame that fight never happened, would have been a talking point to this day and beyond.
Nigel Benn was the British Tyson/Hagler would have faced anyone anytime. I would Say Haye HAtton and Froch are now following taking on the best. Ashame Calzaghe didnt have his balls or punch or even CV!!
