I was again looking at some old fights of Nigel Benn and just a few minutes ago an article talking about his greatest fights. An extraordinary fighter indeed he seemed like a middleweight version of Mike Tyson. Win or lose he always brought excitement to a fight and though was vulnerable to getting hurt he at times was also very dangerous when hurt. Truly one of the all time great middleweight punchers. Also what are some underrated qualities you feel Nigel had
Underrated qualities? His defense. He was very effective countering out of a crouch, ducking and slipping and bobbing and weaving and rolling. The best I ever saw his bob-and-weave was in the Steve Collins fights believe it or not when he's almost like Joe Frazier in there! I felt it was his underrated defense that got Eubank (2nd fight) and McClellan more than anything else.
He was very crude at Middleweight. Yes he was brave, but his power came from good technique and a lack of defence, his bombs were swung from the back of the hall. As Watson showed, it was not to hard for a class operator to beat Benn pre EubankI. Most top ranked Middleweights with good technique could of had Benn's power at 160lbs if they too fought in such a reckless style. When he moved up to 168lbs, he refined his style. He had learnt his chin was not good enough to take the sort of punishment his 80s style led to. So he became a bit of cutie. He still had an occasional insane attack, particularly when stung, but generally he smartened up and picked his shots. Hence the KO percentage dipped, but the quality wins improved.

This I can agree with his defense definitely improved during his move up to super middleweight and he wasn't as weight drained as he was at middleweight
Benn was never a big middleweight. He says it took him four years to grow into a super-middle while boxing as super-middle.
Favorite fighter ever, probably always will be.Pretty decent DJ an all.Not sure how he gets on as a preacher im yet to see one of his sermons :nut
I think this is a pretty good assessment of him, although I would say his defense still had a lot of holes in it at 68 mainly because of his fighting style. He always threw wide loopy punches and thats always going to create openings regardless of how awkward he was coming forward.
I love Benn to bits and he is one of my 3 favourite fighters but a decent DJ he definitely wasn't. He's entrance music was always entertaining though. I miss the Dark Destroyer days.
I dunno i saw him once he was alright. Having said that he probably couldve played Bananarama and i wouldve still love it, Nigel Benn wasnt it.
Fair enough, i'm a bit of a snob when it comes to music though. I didn't like any celeb becoming a DJ by using they're name, whether it was a hero of mine or not. Sasha he definitely wasn't. But like i say mate, Benn's entrances were stuff of legend. :good
F*ckin Sasha , theres a blast from the past.Yeah he was no Sasha fair enough. And yeah loved his entrance, was it the Mclellan fight he played " give it up "?
