Nigel Benn V Julian jackson

I don't understand the reasoning behind all the people saying Benn had the better chin; he was dropped by lesser fighters and more often...

Jackson was KO'd by McClellan, who is a monster puncher, and McCallum, who could definitely crack... Anything after that, he should be considered pretty much washed-up...

Benn got dropped often on the way up and at the top level.


Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not trying to be antagonistic...


And this one's a tossup. Both are equally capable of KO'ing the other, but I'll go with the consensus: Benn gets to him first. Only because he's faster and more aggressive, and we saw what a puncher with that mentality does to Jackson (McClellan II).

 

That was more the result of McClellan being huge compared to Jackson and Jackson being shot and near blind. It's one of those fights where anything could happen. Jackson might just knock Benn stiff with one good punch, or Benn could beat him down with a relentless attack. Jackson was certainly more accurate and better at putting them together, and that counts in a firefight.

 

I agree completely, but I was asking about the consensus on why they thought Benn's chin was better... I can understand the other variables in this one and can see it going either way, but I wouldn't have said anything unless at least two people said the same thing....

 

I favor Benn just because of size advantage . Both fought McClellan and see what happened , although it will always remain a speculation what would have happened if Jackson was 7 years younger than McClellan than the opposite or if Jackson fought McClellan after McClellan fought twice against Benn .

There is also the less probable but still somewhat realistic possibility that Jackson could somehow finish Benn , but I don't concede with it.

 

I pick Jackson. He was resilient early and would wait for the punch to knock out Benn. Remember, Barkley and Dewitt both hurt Benn, why wouldn't Jackson land?

 

I think it's sort of a toss up because of Benn's propensity for getting caught early. He often got up and won, but almost no one got up when JJ put them down.
However, it's still a toss up because Benn was so much bigger. I'm surprised it took so long for such an obvious fact got mentioned.
Jackson was blown up at 160, while Benn had to melt to 160 from day one of his career. He was really a natural super-mid.
