Nigel Benn v Mikkel Kessler

Nigel was certainly not the destroyer he was at middleweight up at super middle, but was more well rounded however, i suppose it would be the Benn who beat McClellan against the Mikkel...who beat Carl Froch...? its a very tough assignment for the (at 168) Dark Damager...Whilst Gerald McClellan brought intermittant spectacular to his work, Mikkel brings a more constant effectiveness, certainly if they are lobbying for points as opposed to the spectacular KO.

Nigel was able get across the line against crafty durable opporsition like Lenzi Morgan by dint of boxing ability and the Threat of his middleweight Threat so to speak...would it be enough here...i have my doubts..Nigel would certainly have his moments, and perhaps would be hoping for a Nicky Piper type late stoppage victory, but i think Mikkel is very solid at this his natural weight, excellant boxing ability, solid punching, durability, and determination, and great stamina, maybe not as short-term spectacular as Nigel, but perhaps just as effective long-haul on the scorecards

I think it would be close, very close, but would take this Viking Warrior to pillage a close decision, and when he gives thanks to Odin for Victory he adds a little thanks that he wasnt meeting Nigel a few years earlier..and eight pounds lighter.

I think back to the trouble Watson gave Benn with sharp straight shots and it makes me think Kesslertakes it in a close War.

 

I do kind of see Kessler's laser, arrow sharpshooting getting home with Benn's head in that low position in front of you - but hitting the top of Benn's head never cut it.....he'd keep coming unless you clipped him on the whiskers with a looping short counter or close little uppercut. Mikkel won't keep him off. I go with Benn.

 

If Kessler has a war with benn he will get beaten , Kessler has never shown me the same defence that Watson showed benn that wonderful night in the big tent

Few fighters would beat Nigel Benn, Gerald Mccllellan was a dangerous boxer, extremely tough guy and benn broke him. Benn would probably have beatn RJJ if they met, he could take endless punishment and come back from knockdowns and hurt you.

i actually think the kessler that lost to calzaghe was a better fighter than the one that beat froch. against joe, his shots were straighter and crisper and his uppercut was on full display. he hit joe with one particular uppercut which would have taken many people out. against froch, i saw a lot of looping shots. just saying...

 

I agree. Mikkel Kessler -on the night he beat Froch was not at his best. But he had an excellent motivator in his corner and fought his heart out. Against Calzaghe he boxed well. But he never got the motivatiuon or advice from his corner. He did´nt adjust to Calzaghe s change of tactics midways in the fight: Calzaghe decided not to trade with Kessler and Kessler was left punchin holes in the air. If Kessler´s corner had advised Kessler to be patient and move back and counterpunch in stead of trying to outpunch Calzaghe - I think Kessler could´ve won (But I´m Danish, You know).
