This being a perfectly reasonable analysis:good

Benn was fast and an absolute beast.. Regarding styles, i happen to think wards style would have suited benn perfectly.. If ward tried to stay on the outside benn had the speed of foot to close distances quickly and he would have deffo got his power shots off. If ward wanted a close up brawl benn would have obliterated him on the inside. And lastly i agree that ward doesn't have the power to keep benn honest and therefore would just be blasted out of there.

Well for that to work, Benn would have to not throw any straight punches or uppercuts, and punch himself out by the halfway point.

I think benn would have come out like this against ward cos of his complete lack of respect for his power.

only ward would have been knocked unconscious..

One of my favourite fights ever. At the time Barkley was considered a beast and was tipped to **** Benn up. Wrong. Great fight.

This is a bad example if you're trying to discredit Benn. He was very inexperienced at the time and was too reliant on power. In addition watson was a top fighter. The reason he only had 17 ko's was because he was nearly killed in the ring and didnt fight again. Think he was still prettyy young then as well, 25, 26?

Not trying to discredit Benn ,just not buying into Benn's just walks through Ward etc etc ..Like I said earlier this is a pickem fight ! What Ward is not a top fighter ?? This is what im talking about ..This would be a tactical fight all the way until the end ..Benn's had the edge in power Ward has the edge in boxing ..Thats all ..Not a cake walk for either man..

No i dont think he'd walk through him. Im gonna wait and see on Ward, no way he can be judged yet, all the potential in the world though.

Exactly, he learned from this and became a better boxer. Plus Watson would outbox Ward too let alone a green Benn. The fact Watson outboxed the hell out of Eubank states how good Watson was.

The reason why is as stated, Ward has never faced a powerful, fast mobile opponent, he relies on his speed, and Benns chin coupled with Wards ineffective power means Benn can swarm him with no fear of being hurt. Benn wasn't a mug in terms of technical boxing, he boxed against Barkley that wild as he knew he could get him out fast( a likely scenario had he ever faced Ward), but he would adapt if that didn't work, as shown against Eubank 2.Ward does implement a game plan, but only against one dimensional slow fighters, Benn is a whole new animal to anything Wards ever seen and will likely ever see.

Ward didn't look great against Froch, with his speed and Froch being one of the slowest boxers I have seen, he should have stopped him on accumiliation of punches alone, Froch got through at times, Benn hits a lot harder and a lot faster. Ward also looked badly gassed and Froch doesn't pressure like Benn did. Benn did at times punch himself out, but he was superbly conditioned and learned from his mistakes.

In the fight I put up against Watson he only had 17 KO's only 4 more than Ward ..So to say that Ward had nothing to keep him honest is far fetched ..Pls I highly doubt Ward would sit in trade with a dangerous puncher like Benn ..The way to nuetralize a puncher is box ,everyone knows that ..Now if Ward was stupid enough to trade with Benn like Barkley did then yes it be the same result but Ward is not that type of fighter !

And Ward didn't look gassed agasinst Froch ,I mean the what Benn wasn't gassed in the fight with Watson ? From most of the interviews I have read of Benn he always fought tight ..So you never know what could happen ..Ward is also very well conditioned as well so it would be a matter of which fighter executes their game plan .. Like I said a pickem fight ..Im aware of the monster that Benn is but there have been plenty of monsters that have been out boxed ..

Once again, you're neglecting the fact Benn adapts from brawler to boxer and outboxed a technically brilliant Eubank, so he has shown he is multi dimensional. I already said benn gassed against Watson, he punched himself out against the first person that stood up to his onslaught and nullified his attack, which is why he learned from this.

Ward either gassed against Froch, or Froch outboxed him for the final 3 rounds, either doesn't bode well, but especially the latter. Mclennan was one of the hardest punchers p4p of all time, Benn took so many of his shots flush, Eubank had real KO power, Benn took 2 fights of his shots flush. Ward doesn't have the power to trouble Benn at all, and his lateral movement is something that would ruin Wards timing anyway, but Benn would not be troubled to close him down and swarm him with vicious shots from many angles. Wards Ko rate only covers up how poor his early opponents were, he hasn't come close to troubling anyone in the super 6 with power shots or even accumiliation of punches, it's not and never will be part of his game.

This isn't a personal attack on Ward, just Benn went tooth and nail with some great fighters that had everything in their locker, Ward has speed, ring intelligence and a good defence, 2 of those 3 would be nullified by Benns own capabilities and ring intelligence would only get him so far, he isn't like Hopkins in that sense.

Don't even get me started on the McClleland fight ..Benn got a lucky 20 count he knew it his team knew it ..But everything you said is accurate with regards to the DD ..

My thing is Ward is just an excellent boxer and I always give boxers the edge .

What happens when Benn can't KO Ward ..Ward doesn't have to KO Benn to win ..Thats why this could be a pickem fight ,We all know how Benn could win but lets not dismiss how Ward could win ..

    East side boxing.

Where getting knocked down once in your life and going on to win that fight anyway gives you a glass chin.

Where a british boxer defeats EVERYONE in a poll........

20 count? ha, subjective much? if he were out for the count, he wouldn't have lasted the other 2mins of round 1, so he wasn't in KO land territory.

I keep going back to it, but Benn outboxed Eubank for 12 rounds, that's what happens when he can't get the KO, you're just ignoring that Benn improved as a boxer, I assume we are talking about the Best Ward so far against the best Benn.

Ward isn't even an excellent boxer yet, he has potential, but he has to do more than beat a rusty Kessler, a midget mw, a statue in Green, squeek a decision over Bika and beat one of the slowest pro boxers ever. Currently he is a very good boxer, but his opponents have all been tailor made and one dimensional.

I think Ward would beat Bute, but I would love to see how he handles Dirrel( not that I think Dirrel is exceptional, but he has the qualities that Wards never come up against yet, so a proper test), if he beat him impressively then I would reconsider my opinion of him, but I am not fooled by the names he has on his resume now. He is currently Chad dawson/Kelly Pavlik hype, and he hasn't done a lot wrong since Boone ( exception of Bika) but he also hasn't startled me to suggest he is a great fighter, he does have time on his side though.
