Nigel Benn vs Andre Ward,

He was out for 10 seconds I know that much or at least down ..Surely was recovered by the 17th ..But as far as Ward and Benn Goes I think the fight would be fair to revisit this once Ward has peaked .

Right now Benn's peak is stronger ,like you said Benn developed into a better boxer Ward needs more time but from what I have seen thus far he's got a hell of chance based on boxing to at least contend with him and not get blown out as you previously suggested .

There is no one Ward has faced that had anywhere near the attributes benn had, so nothing to suggest that ward could live with Benn. Ward hasn't faced anyone with the speed, power, movement,workrate,intensity and stamina of Benn. Benn has fought people with qualities Ward has and more. I am willing to hold my hands up if Ward moves forward with his career and beats some legitimately multi dimensional fighters, but he has only faced stiff sluggers so far, on this basis, Benn does serious damage to him.

Like I said though earlier regarding Ward lets wait for his peak to revisit this ..

 

I have the benefit of watching it again, one persons vocal opinion doesn't make it true, he was up and ready, there is alot of guilt surrounding this fight, and a sympathetic view for Gman due to what happened. I don't see the count as a problem, I guess some do, it's perspective, didn't make the fight any less astonishing from either fighters performance.

So current Ward loses to peak Benn?

 

Dont see Ward losing to Benn. Ward will beat him on the inside ala Watson and box him in a smart fashion. Also Ward would never lose to a guy like Malinga. Would have loved to see it though. Ah well. Too bad it will never happen.

Dude the answer is i wasn't comparing ward with barkley. I was using this particular bout as an example as to how I THINK Benn would have started against ward.

 

And I only used the Watson fight to illustrate that you didn't have to be a KO artist to keep Benn honest thats all .. But I also don't think Ward fights like Barkely either ..

 

Benn was a middleweight agaisnt Watson and no where near the finished article he became

 

Benn was a beast and perhaps one of the top 3 if not the best puncher in 168 history. Eubank with his faster hands and his own respectable power humbled him. Watson beat him too and Collins also but I think after the Gman fight Benn wasnt the same. Malinga gave him a tough time. I think Benn might drop Ward but he wont knock him out. And who knows if Ward would even give him any distance to work with. Toney, Rj, Eubank, yea. Benn? Other than Gman he fell short vs the best of his era but he always made them go thru hell. Nothing more nothing less.

 

Agreed ward is nothing like brakley but that was never my point..

and since you mention it about watson i do feel it is a bad example in order illustrate how benn could be beat. imo Benn was green and beat himself in this fight. Watson was a very good fighter to boot and if you was to account for the fact that his career ended before he was 26 then yes I would say he had a high knockout % ratio. 21 stoppages out of 25 fights and able to knockdown a granite chinned eubank is not too shabby in my book. Very underrated power and not exactly the best example to use to illustrate "you didn't have to be a ko artist the keep benn honest"

Relatively speaking Watson was more powerful than ward for sure and his chin and durability was very good. Ward still has the questions to answer and until so i can't believe that he would have defeated a prime benn.

 

Did you watch the 2 Eubank fights? 1st was a war that could have gone either way had it not been stopped, 2nd Benn won, and Eubank got a very lucky draw.atsch

Wharton won the European SMW title, beat Galvano (former SMW world champ) when still a force, beat Nardiello who went on to become a SMW world champ, took SMW world champ Reid to a MDec, and pushed Benn and Eubank, and was top 10 rated for years.
Pascal didnt do anything near to that at SMW :hi:
