I was there that night, brilliant fight, but O'Connell really should of stopped it, Benn was a beaten man.

Logan barely won a fight post Benn, I know Eubank beat him up a little while after this, Logan basing himself in Blighty.

Actually looking up Logan's record, Eubank outpointed him, it was the Northern Ireland based future Super Middleweight world title holder Victor Cordoba who stopped him.

Logan-Eubank was an intense war as a Benn chief support. Eubank came from nowhere and Maloney gave him the Logan fight to shut him up and 'bump him off'. But Eubank turned out to be good.

Benn-Logan II was big bucks, so Eubank spoiled those plans and the Benn-Logan rivalry kind of ended there.

Cordoba was a fast starter, had Nunn in trouble early.

i was there also it was a great night after about thirty seconds of the first round me and my mates (who i had to drag there) were standing and jumping around for the rest of the fight.

i also saw the eubank/logan fight eubank really impressed me that was the first time i saw him live , it was a very exhibition of boxing by eubank

LOL, Eubank did kind of sneak up on everyone didn't he? It was about the only subtle thing he ever did!

I did not catch Eubank live until Dos Santos (Actually I did see the end of Melfah fight), and although the fight sucked, it made Eubank on TV (the pose and stare down the camera, whilst Dos Santos was being counted out).

That was night Jim McDonnell had a scary KO defeat to Kenny Vice, I must admit, I thought he was dead/dying.

The stupid thing is McDonnell actually had another fight a few years later. Talk about not learning...

After the Nelson fight, in which I had him in front going into the final round (watching back on TV, I think I got carried away being there, and supporting Jim), and that was a pretty brutal fight for McDonnell, but Vice was meant to be a soft start to build up to another title shot...

i never went to the nelson fight but watching on TV i think you may of been carried :yep .vice was certainly supposed to be a rebuilding fight, but what the nelson made me think at the time was how good brian mitchell was when he beat mcdonnell

I confess I never saw the Mitchell fight. I was really into the anti-apartheid thing at the time, was a little disappointed Jim took the fight. I always liked McDonnell I saw him a lot as the fights my Dad took me to when I was younger were thinking about it, all Lawless bills, with Jim learning his trade on the undercard...

That is no defence. Benn was gone, a top quality referee should of stopped it. I accept referees are human, and McDonnell was a good ref, but as fine as that fight was, it was not McDonnell's finest moment.

I disagree with some of that statement. I think "gone" means a fighter is knocked senseless and no longer able to defend himself. Benn was hurt but still was conscious enough to use his survival skills and possessed the ability to fight back.
I accept the argument that he was hurt and taking big punches though, maybe too many, so a referee's stoppage wouldn't have been out of order.
I guess it's all part of the debate of premature/late stoppages.
I do tend to think British fights are often stopped way too early nowadays.
It's hard to find the right balance.

I would rather have 999 bouts stopped too early, than one too late...

Like I said, at the time watching it, I thought the beating Nelson gave him, plus that punch had done McDonnell in. Thankfully, I was wrong.
