I will be generous to Benn. I am a Briscoe fan, but I say he starts slow, Benn would be very active early on, but Bennie would inevitably weather the storm. I could see Briscoe coming on strong late, pounding the tiring Benn, earn a draw, or stop Benn. Two strong, tough guys, I say it's a slugfest either way.
Benn knocked out Sherry with one right hand when they met at 168 and Benn`s hook was lethal at 160, look how weak Briscoe`s right hands were v Hagler, he didn`t have the speed and snap Benn had in his shots at all.
That's what I think. Benn was a tough guy, and he's benn in some all-out-wars, but I just think when it comes to going the distance, Bennie is prepared to fight every minute of every round until the fight is over, Benn is not.
I didn`t know Benn was a good body puncher, he threw a lot of shots to Watson`s body because of Michael`s high guard and landed a lot of counter uppercuts to Eubanks body in their rematch in `93 but at 160 he land far fewer shots to Eubank`s body despite hurting him with one body shot, Briscoe landed well to Haglers body with right hooks while switch-hitting from a southpaw stance.
Benn was an awesome body puncher, as seen in the Eubank first fight most famously. He absolutely destroyed Nicky Piper's ripped to shreds body and Nicky said he was urinating blood for a few days. Stopped a few guys on body shots.
Yes Briscoe`s right hand was sharp as hell v Monzon both as an offensive tool and as a defensive glove, he held it near his chin and parried the jab well, I feel that would help him v Benn who missed a lot of right hands, Briscoe would have to watch Benn`s hooks though, yet Briscoe`s head movement and slipping ability was far better than Benn`s.
Benn later developed that duck and weave for the Eubank II and McClellan fights that was remarkable, they hit thin air with their touted right hands.
No, G-man was sloppy v Benn and Eubank used to miss a lot anyway, Benn was never that hard to hit, Monzon would have found him much easier to hit than Briscoe.
