bingo. sums it up---and just think how good Bennie would have been if he did not work full time. full training and prepare for 6 weeks against this guy?
Love to of seen a Nigel who dedicated himself to boxing. That he was able to achieve all he did in the game at about 60% is remarkable!
good points about Monzon and Hagler. I could really see Benn trying hard to put Bennie away. And if Monzon and Hagler wouldn't slug with Bennie, Benn better not. Monzon and Hagler certainly had the power and toughness to slug with Bennie, but it does speak to Bennie's intimidating appearance and style.
True. But his chin was light years better. Although Bennie was no Paulie Malignaggi in the power department either. IMHO, this all boils down to who can withstand the other's pressure. That's why I choose Bennie
Yes, this is definitely a war while it lasts. Bennie always moving in, Benn trying to stave him off with jabs and power shots, Bennie firing back to the body. Bennie by TKO around 7 or 9.
60%? He needed to learn better fundamentals, he looked sloppy v Galvano in teir rematch, what would more training have done for him? He needed better trainers.
Benn wouldn`t have used jabs to keep Benny off, he didn`t land many jabs in his career and when an opponent came towards him he just threw bombs back.
He worked Hagler`s body well also, these tactics v Benn would make him gass like he did v Watson and Eubank in his first bout v Chris.
Yes 60% is being kind. He smoked 20 a day through his career, was addicted to ecstacy and partying through his career, smoked spliffs every day of his career etc.
He actually started jabbing under Graham Moughton against 6ft4 Lenzie Morgan, out jabbed him. And jabbed Wharton's head off of course.
He gassed against Watson, sure. Understandably. But against Eubank he was beaten up badly, he didn't 'gas'! His legs went from a vicious combination. And his legs went in the last second of the last round in Galvano II from an uppercut to the chin? Every boxer lands lots of jabs in their career! Lol!
He said he should have stayed with Jimmy Tibbs and said Tibbs was by far better than any other trainer that trained him.
All this talk of Nige training a little harder, learning more technique ect. is a little short-sighted. Benn didn't bother ingraining the technique into his skillset because it wasn't what he did. He went in there to have a tear up, and he could be sloppy with that because he had the gifts for it. If Benn wanted, and/or was able to learn his techniques deeper, he would've.
