Sorry Charles, don,t see it that way at all, Bennie simply had too much of everything to lose to Benn, better chin ( legendary chin ) had a jab like a MW Liston, strong beyond belief, ferocious body punching ( the first couple of mins Valdez 2 ) unlimited stamina, unbending will, insane self belief, and a truly implacable mind set, no Charlie old boy, Benn would not have beaten Bad Bennie.
Benn scored better KO`s than any fighter Briscoe faced, Hagler was only a better finisher than Benn because he wasn`t as wild but Benn had more power.
Benn didn't really come of age till he moved to Supermiddle. He became less wild and more defensive. At Middle here, Briscoe is too clever. He'd get the tireing Benn and stop him. IMO
Unlike Gerald McCellean "Bad" Bennie Briscoe was the real deal. Briscoe wouldn't allow Benn to get back on track when he got him hurt. This fight would be violent and short. The better overall chin and skills would allow Briscoe to weather the storm coming from Benn , keeping the fight in close, Briscoe would continue to wear down Benn with a systematic body attack followed but short hooks and uppercuts to his chin. Sooner than later Briscoe would eventually seriously hurt the charging Benn with a classic counter punch, finish him off with a blistering combination in 8-9 rds.
I hear he went the distance with both Hagler and Monzon…that’s some good cheddar right there. And I also hear he could bang a bit, too. My knowledge of him isn’t great I have to admit but the consensus in my gym which consists of a good few Briscoe fans, is BB would knock Benn out inside six rounds.
Maybe, but Benn hit harder than Hagler and Monzon and Monzon was a box/puncher throwing alot of jabs as was Hagler who moved a lot and boxed v Briscoe where Benn would have just came forward throwing and landing more bombs like the Barkley fight.
He did and a pretty good one in Barkley but still don't see him beating him. Not that I don't Benn, he's right up there on my favorite s.
