I would give an edge to Nigel Benn.

A better question is " could prime roy jones win a round vs froch?"

Froch has two losses and neither boxer he lost to fights anything like Benns style. I'm not saying Benn wouldn't win but I don't know what evidence points to a Benn victory. Great fight regardless.

It would have been a classic bout. I see Froch coming from behind and stopping Benn late. Nothing certain, though.

Froch's record looks more and more impressive, but for a period in the early/mid 90s Benn was in superb form. Their styles are such it could be an absolute classic, I edge towards The Cobra, but with little confidence.

Froch has fought some decent competition, but Benn's era was much stronger than today. I'd favour Benn by KO in a war.

Nasty stylistic mismatch as Froch is wide open for Benn's lightning thunderbolt of an overarm right. With Benn's low head you need short uppercuts and Froch doesn't have them.

Benn would have blew him away in R1 like he did to The Blade.

I am guessing you did not watch Benn/Barkley. Yes Benn won on the three knockdown rule, but without it, the fight still could of gone either way, Barkley had, had his moments...

Benn would knock Froch out inside 5 rounds.
Froch comes wading in with his chin hanging out, wide open. He's been decked and badly hurt by average hitters.

He also had an intelligence in his pomp that even prime Benn lacked. Unlike a Benn past his best who seemed to find a way to lose, The Cobra has found a way to win. Perhaps that is the very small difference that gives Carl the edge...

I don't see much intelligence in wading in with the chin hanging out.

I don't see that at all. Benn's win over McClellan was near-miraculous, far from 'finding a way to lose'. Benn was a badly damaged fighter after that because McClellan was a bona fide destroyer, and the three losses Benn suffered then are hardly worth mentioning, we'd be talking about a shot fighter. Then again, Froch made Jermain Taylor look almost like a killer.
