    Froch wins on points....

To all the posters who live in fantasy world of Benn knocking Froch out in 5 rounds, get your head out of your ass, Froch has an iron chin, and has never been seriously hurt, let alone stopped, UNLIKE BENN..

Have to go with Benn here though I think Carl does better against similar comp.

    Utter nightmare for Froch:
    1) His jab and pick-spots skills used against Johnson, Abraham, times against Kessler etc would be limited against a suicidal nutter, bobbing and weaving to get inside a la Benn.

    2) Froch does damage by imposing himself on fighters, diving in and trading to do damage. Benn might take some shots but that's when he would go 'flip-mode' so to speak and start winging SERIOUS danger! Froch bites one of those hooks wether to body or head and I don't give a funk about his excellent chin, Benn obliterates him in a trade off.

Unlucky Froch, you're the better/more complete fighter but you don't take this one in my book. Benn KO.

Interesting that Froch has suddenly gone up in many people's estimations after beating the relatively unproven and inexperienced George Groves.
It's really Froch's unimpressive showing in the first fight that helped him make an impact in the rematch.
Froch has always shown a lot of heart and grit, you can't take that away from him.
Way way too easy to hit to put him up against a puncher like Benn though.

Froch's jab worries me here. I'm sure many of the British pundits/analysers seem to think its a very good one, but for me it's far to slow and when he tries to use it as a range finder, he gets very lazy with it for too often. I think Benn would land some damaging right hands over the top of that jab and may be the difference maker here.

Both have similar intangibles in terms of chins, heart, stamina and desire to win. I don't doubt Benn's chin to stand up to Froch for 12 rounds, not so sure I can say the same vice versa as Froch's defence and head movement is virtually non existent. One of the only areas I see Froch having the advantage is chatting **** so I'll take Benn by competitive UD. It would be a fantastic fight.

As I said in his pomp; Froch is clearly coming to the end of his career.

Benn peaked with McClellan, it was as you suggest, a miraculous win and Benn rightly deserves kudos for that performance. What I am aiming at is the finale of Benn's career and comparing that with the finale of Froch's career. Benn lost (again ;)) to Sugarboy, who was past his best too, then had the embarrassment of the Collins' fights, in which it could be argued he bottled them.

Froch was in shocking form in the first Groves fight, badly hurt, and nothing going right, yet unlike Benn he did not bottle it, he carried on going and found a way to win. Although better in the rematch it is clear Froch is on his last legs as he again struggled, but found the punch when it was needed, something Benn could not do in the final stages of his career...

I find myself leaning towards Froch here, based on his better durability.

The key theme with Froch, is that he has consistently performed better than he should be able to on paper.

He's been wading in with his chin hanging out his whole championship career. It's his style.

I don't think Froch is anywhere near as damaged/ring worn as Benn was in '95-'96.

Benn had more fights, more wars, and on a busier schedule. Tougher, harder punching opposition, in my opinion.

If you want to make a big deal out of Benn quitting in his last fight, then carry on but I can't go along with that. I think it's obvious that Benn was more shot in that fight than Froch was in the first Groves fight.

Also, I don't see how comparing the two guys at the 'tail ends' of their careers helps you decide that Froch has 'an edge' over Benn, prime for prime. I followed your reasoning but it's very unconvincing.

    I disagree with this.
Benn survived better punchers than anyone Froch has ever faced.
Froch has been on the deck against very average hitters.

froch would be in a fight like he hasn't yet experienced... what froch did to Bute is what Benn took to damn near everybody.

there was a bit of vulnerability with Benn's chin, but he hardly actually paid for it, so froch has a punchers chance, which big hitters don't?

but rest assured Carl's heart would be palpitating in this affair and though there is always a possible upset, the Bet on Benn would pay off damn near everytime.

no benn is neither as strong, fit or as durable in my opinion.

froch has been down from taylor and groves hmm who else, speed got him. its usually because he is hit square on, not because hes on the verge of getting ko'd. where as benn is dangerous when hes hurt, he was hurt alot.

Benns era may have been tougher, but how many of those guys did Benn actually beat? with all due respect, he lost to Eubank and Watson for a start.

Being part of an era is one thing, ruling over that era is another.

Im not saying Froch is anything special, but apart from Andre Ward, Froch has beat everyone put in front of him.

I think Froch at least deserves a fair shake here.

To me this fight reminds me of Tyson/Holyfield, you've got a big punching faster starter who can gas later on vs an iron chinned warrior, with very good recovery skills and never say never attitude and a tremendous will to win.

Froch underestimated Groves the first time round, hence why he came wading in with his chin, yes he was in trouble, but he dug deep and a found a way. In the rematches, Froch showed he can stick to a very good gample Kessler 2, Groves 2.

Froch was probably the smarter fighter. But he is so open to those right hands, against Benn it could be all she wrote

Benn would be highly dangerous for the first half of the fight, but what happens when Benns rage runs out of steam? I think Froch will approach the fight very cautiously and try to weather the early storm against Benn, then Froch takes him out in the later rounds.

Bert Cooper nearly had Holyfield beat, surely then guys like Tyson, Lewis, Foreman would get Holyfield out of there?

But we know it doesnt work like that.

Just because Mclellan couldnt get Benn out of there, does not mean Froch cant.
