Benn wouldn't have taken the fight, unless the money was huge. He said as much in a KO magazine interview years ago. He said that he had sparred McCallum and that mike kept hitting him in the body, in the exact same place, over and over again. Benn was convinced that that was the type of thing that does you permanent damage.

Watson & Collins , 2 out of McCallum's opponents ended having permanent damage , but it was in d head . However , they were also Eubnaks opponents and Benn opponents . Also McClellan was solely a Benn opponent out of these , but also a Mugabi (doesn't count because he got rid of a shot/drained/both Mugabi easily in 1) and a Jackson opponent as sparred with Hearns whose power is overrated .

McCallum wins by easy stoppage at Middleweight.

If Benn caught McCallum in say 94/95 at 168, he may just have enough to edge it, particularly if he were fighting on home turf.

good 2 know , i think it's 1 of d best insights on d McCallum riddle . His greatness is 2 obvious , and everything has n Xplanation . Someday some1 will write a lyrical fairy tale involving quotes , side stories , distorted semi truths and most importantly irrelevant descriptions , but this post nails it in d s d best . Even if i didn't notice it myself from watching his fights . But Y should I ? all of his opponents that i watched him fight against , Xcept from Watson were 2 skilled and well schooled 2 allow him this . And most usually (Xcept from Kalambay) also 2 young 4 him (meaning that he was 2 old) .

This is how I see it. If they met 94/95 at SMW, I'd actually have Been as a quite clear favourite, since he had improved and McCallum declined by a good deal. Especially on home ground. Ffs, Graham somehow came close to getting the decision against Mike with home advantage.

Benn would give it a good go for five or six rounds and then nod to and tap McCallum in acknowledgement that he couldn't do anything with him. From there I don't know if Benn would kind of quit his way out like turn his back or lose his cool, and then complain of body pain post-fight...not sure. Probably.

Or maybe Benn would see out the 12 by backing to the ropes on his toes, bobbing and weaving and then circling around, just staying away. Most likely kind of quit, though.
