Can anyone remember this fight? What happened? Obviously Piper was stopped in the 11th but he was ahead on two of the three scorecards at the time. I was only 11 at the time and can't remember watching it. Can anyone summerize please?
Piper came down 7lbs after losing to the Cat in what was considered an upset. He gave Benn a suprisingly spirited match, but Piper was running on empty at the end, and even by the middle rounds, there seemed like there was only going to be one winner. The judge who had Piper ahead was wrong IMO. From my seat, I had it 6/4 Benn; but Alee Pali was poor viewing for boxing; I never did watch it on TV.
good fight. typical benn thing to go out swinging and get caught...but he came back strongly and just exhausted piper. piper was a damn good fighter very tall had a punchj a good jab and a decent amount of skills...sadly he was too much of a warrior and would just trade punch for punch if he got a hint of a fight. but he drained and lost the stamina that he could produce...even though it's one division it wasa just to much to go down 6 pounds. this is a footnote in wieght draining...it WILL hinder your performance. and even though piper was winning on the cards it was clear benn was going to finsh.the sand ran out for piper 2 rounds before.
Benn made chopped liver out of him! He broke him down bit-by-bit. Can't believe Piper was ahead. Benn got careless and got stunned ever so slightly a couple of times but it was Benn's fight all the way.
