I agree but wasn`t Sibson near the end by 1988? I only know about him from his fights with Minter and Hagler, he met Marvin 5 years previous to 1988, that`s a long time, what did he do in the meantime?

Every round of Hearns-DeWitt was close. Hearns schooled a peak Leonard.

Benn rarely sparred, and when he did, he held back a lot. Against Duran he had total respect and was pulling shots. This was a Benn who had only been pro a few months, Duran had been a master for 15-20 years.

Hearns was far better and quicker at welter! Leonard showed more savvy than DeWitt did to get inside Hearns jab and do the damage that was needed, next you`ll be saying DeWitt evaded as many punches as Benitez did at light middle when losing a split decision to a prime Hearns!

After Benn lost easily to Watson in '89 he moved to the states and trained in Muhammad Ali`s old gym in Miami, Benn recently told Fern Britain in an interview during a program about his life and career that when he was working with his new trainer he didn`t want to spar because he would get beat up bad by the fighters in that gym, eventually he did and got battered but carried on session after session and improved and started beating his partners, Benn was clearly better after the Watson fight where he was easily outsmarted. Duran would have toyed with the Benn that fought Watson, he had no defense and punched himself out.

Sibbo was physically worn out by 1988 and mentally had wanted out since 1985...but he kept getting title shots due to his quality and ring style.

The sibson of 1988 who was dead even with tate after 8 would still be more than enough for 1988 benn who was used to blowing out 4th raters in a few rounds and simply wasnt equipped to deal with the quality work and power of even a fading sibson.1990 benn again its a different story a different quality fighter

Someone on this thread stated that Doug DeWitt did better against Hearns than Sugar did in their 1st meeting! DeWitt was completely outclassed by Benn how do you think Sibson would have done against DeWitt around about this time?

I dont think any version of sibbo post 1984 does well against dewitt im afraid mark.

Dewitt was a terrific second tier boxer in that wonderful era. On song he had a great chin, stamina and useful boxing skills.nigels win there is very underrated.foug had looked fantastic beating matthew hilton the fight before....what fighters they were! Benn,dewitt,hilton...a hilton-benn fight in 1990 would have been a in ring blockbuster

Dewitt would have held his ground v sibson and fired straight lefts and rights .doug could box and he had real courage.

1981-84 tony is different he beats dewitt
