i agree with pretty much everyone else, but Eubank II was good and Barkley fight was also amazing, explosive.
Eubank II was very good for the ducking, slipping and weaving and the fact he countered Eubank's counters! He also ducked and weaved well against McClellan and kept his punches nice and tight that night.
watched that live in the pub, great atmosphere. most people thought the fight was close but generally thought he should have just got the nod that night.
I had Eubank running away with it after six, with Benn winning the second and fourth but having that point deducted in the sixth, which Eubank nicked anyway. However, then he started countering Eubank's counters and evened it up by the 10th...
Can't go along with that - he was punched out of the ring in 30 seconds, outboxed, overpowered, wobbly, knocked down again... he was just determined and McClellan quit. Against Wharton he was in control from start to finish, jabbing beautifully and using the ring. And Wharton was almost as dangerous as McClellan with his left hooks alone.
I would say the fight with G-man but the eubank rematch and the blade fights were both very good performances also
You obviously prefer tear ups to the more subtle style of boxing. Benn ( as the poster explained ) showed a completely different side to his game than the G/ Man fight, against Wharton.
It was impressive how he backed McClellan up and countered his jab with left hooks and right hands over the top, while coming forward
Jones cherry picked his oppenents in his prime and relied on the fact that many people rate talent over acheivement in the States. We since found out that Roy was hiding one of the biggest china chins in boxing history. As for the question I would rank them like so: G-Man Eubank II Barkley (dont rate him that highly but look how Benn handled him compared to Toney) The reason Benn is so popular is cause he went in as an underdog and won so many times.
Against G-man he overcame adversity and proceeded to bully and overpower his man to a victory. It personifies the heart and grit Benn was all about. It clearly wasnt his best boxing performance but i do feel its the victory that everyone remembers for the right and wrong reasons, in no uncertain terms it its his most significant victory and finest moment between the ropes.:good
Yes he certainly did,and i`m chuffed that he did so but if Barkley just held his hands up more, realized the danger more he could`ve done better. But you know,he thought overrated limey bum he can`t knock me out but he found out he was in with a puncher similar to Julian Jackson. But what really got me pissed off was him making excuses and whinging afterwards and cursing Benn why he didn`t give him the rematch.
