Nigel Benn's Best Performance

I see your point, i think Barkley would always have a bit more than a punchers chance and looked huge at the weight, but i think Benn would always be that little bit too determined and punch that little bit too hard. It looked as if Barkley was getting murked mid punch or mid combination and Benn was clever or determined (not quite sure which) enough to punch with him. Barkley would always struggle to overcome that IMO of course.

 

When he beat N Piper. No Piper wasnt going to win, but the way Benn performed looked very good. Piper was always game and would try, though I was never a fan of Piper

 

That was Benn's second best performance in my opinion.

Yeah I thought the Piper performance was impressive in how Benn dealt with Nicky.

It would've been the McClellan fight, but the rabbit punches that were allowed in that fight was horrifying to watch. My pick is the Eubank rematch. I thought he boxed beautifully and clearly won.

 

the ducking, slipping and weaving was impressive.

 

You put a fighter with a record of 14-33-3 as his number 4 best performance ever? When there's the likes of Galvano II DeWitt missing, and Barkley and McClellan lower? I'll bet you'd never dream of putting a fighter of Lenzie Morgan's caliber on Eubank's performance list.

That's about right. The Sims fight was under-rated, alot of people expected him to lose that.

The Mclellan fight is CLEARLY his best performance, and one of the best by a British fighter in my lifetime IMO.

Never judge a fighter by numbers, judge him by ability. The tall, rangey talented Morgan was taking fights on a few days notice until he fought Tiozzo, when he had a three-week training camp and clearly beat him. He had a six-week training camp for Benn. Benn knew if he could beat Lenzie well he could beat the best in the division and take on Harding/Andries/Barkley/Hearns at 175. Morgan dwarfed Nigel. And Benn out-jabbed him for 10 rounds straight when LM was coming off a 10-round jabbing shut-out over European jabber Tiozzo (only to be robbed blind).

 

Logan was one of his career-worst performances, are you mad. He was floored heavily and wobbling all over the place, and later hit 22 times in a row without moving his head or raising his hands, before the hail-mary hook from his ankles and controversial stoppage.

McClellan. McClellan was seen at the time as an unstoppable force and was knocking people dead. Benn came back from a shaky start to KO the powerful McClellan and unfortuantely permently F'ing him up in the process. That last part wasn't too cool for Benn, but the heart and power he showed was his best moment.

I know gman is the obvious choice but i think I'm going for Eubank 2. I had him winning that fight and it's probably his best whole fight display in his career.

Sure his comeback v gman was great against a highly rated superstar but outboxing a prime Eubank was pretty special for me.

Despite it not being his best weight i think he's a top 10 atg at smw (not a huge achievement coz it has shite history but still)

 

With Eubank, Benn is a top two 'atg' at super middle.
