Apparently they are closing down the office out east where everyone is housed and moving operations to Los Angeles so that Golden Boy (Ring Magazines parent company) can have tighter control over it. Some are saying that they fired Collins because he wasnt a Golden Boy shill and they want a magazine that will essentially serve as a promotional tool for GBP. I doubt that highly. Part of what makes Ring Magazine a valuable property (relatively speaking) is its name and tradition. To turn all of that on its head would basically end Ring Magazine as we all know it and kill it outright. My best guess is that Collins was stale, and really hadnt brought any new ideas to the table since his Ring championship policy (which wasnt really a new idea, and wasnt really successful). In an age of dying print media and instant news access Ring Magazine needs 21st century ideas. Collins was a stick in the mud and anytime Ive dealt with him he seemed to be a self important *****. In my opinion he had been dragging the magazine down for years. I hope this change breaths new life into it.
No Kidding, I was AMAZED Ring Magazine took him on after they folded his other Mag. That guy was scum.
Well that's bad to hear it maybe a GBP propaganda machine and that people lost their jobs... I never could get a solid read on Bagg; he's mildly amusing, but repulsive at the same time. I liked that Ring Theory show until they started wanting you to subscribe... Bull****.
I was never a devoted fan of Collins, but he stood out as an independent writer and as such he'll be missed now that The Ring apparently is to grow tighter bonds with GBP. Therefore the move could be a major selfinflicted shot in the foot as the critics is bound to point out Ring Magazines unbiasedness which is the heart and soul of The Bible of Boxing.
