Night of the Black Stars Media Conference A media conference for the Night of the Black Stars Boxing event and Vibe 3 on 3 basketball will be held in front of the Redfern Community Centre at 11am on Thursday February 12. On the panel will be participating fighters Edgar Brown Sugar Wymarra and Joey Williams and also two time world champion Anthony The Man Mundine. Other attendees include Aboriginal fight legends world champion Lionel Rose and Tony Mundine. Footy legend Arthur Beetson and master trainer Johnny Lewis will also be present as well as former fighter and head of the Indigenous Sporting Academy Alex Wymarra. The Night of the Black Stars is on the following day Black Friday - 13th of February with basketball starting from 3pm at the Block in Redfern. The Pro am fight card will start at 5.30pm feature the cream of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait professional and amateur boxers together for the first time on the same card including Cool Willie Kickett, former NRL Star turned boxer Joey Williams, Edgar Brown Sugar Wymarra and on the amateur side Campbell Cobbo Riley who fight insiders say has the speed and power of a young Lionel Rose, PCYC State Champion Paulie West and AIS Indigenous Boxing team captain Nathan Carroll. Between bouts will be Aboriginal cultural entertainment provided by Vibe Australia and featuring Casey Donovan with actor Luke Carroll smoothing the crowd as MC. "Night of the Black Stars" will also celebrate the first anniversary of Kevin Rudd's parliamentary apology. Hosting partner for the event is Vibe Australia and the fights will take place under a Big Top Tent at the Block in Redfern. Tickets for the boxing event are $12.50 at the door and the night is a corporate fundraiser for the Indigenous Sporting Academy with part proceeds to the Tony Mundine Gym in the block.
