Remember that? Mesi vs TOS Guinn vs Dokiwari i forgot if there was a third fight... cant remember... but anyways... crazy how things turn out who would we put on a card for this years night of the young heavyweights if there was one?
JC Gomez and Sinal Sam was the other fight. Good card but none of those guys turned out quite as good as thought. Guinn got lazy, Gomez threw away his talent, and Mesi with the brain injury. Actually, the big loser of the night, Tos, may have had the most succesful career of the lot.
i know isnt that crazy... and yes now i remember... gomez boxed circles around sam... MESI - Brain injury GUINN - turned journeyman GOMEZ - lost in limbo DOKI - ??????? is lost worse then gomez TOS - will still make some fights in the future SAM - ????? crazy how things turn out...
We're getting a fight like that this weekend in Witherspoon vs. Arreola, but you never know how a prospects career will pan out in boxing.
The thrid fight was Gomez vs Sinan Sam. I would love to see another of these shows. The trouble is Mesi, TOS, and Guinn were American. Dokiwari fought in the USA. These days there are zero american heavies as good as Mesi or TOS were. And that is the problem. Well, Maybe Chambers or Brock was on Mesi's level, but each guy lost already when the stepped up, so they really are not young heavyweights.
I'd like to see another Night of the Young Heavies. There are a few good/decent prospects who could fight to showcase themselves. Dimitrenko Arreloa Solis Witherspoon Alonzo Butler
They were actually three pretty good fights, despite that none of those guys ever became a champion. Gomez outboxed Sam in a pretty good display, Guinn outworked Dokiwari (where did that guy go?), and then Mesi absolutely crushed Williamson.
Kevin Johnson too. Only prospect I'm vaguely interested in at the weight right now. And it is only vague interest. :yep
I'm just not sold on Johnson, he has to add some diversity to his game. Good jab, though. I think Arreola is worth watching, at least he's aggressive.
