Maskaev was a pretty seasoned amateur from what I recall. I know he knocked out Vitali Klitschko in a tournament once. I would say he was far more skilled than Valuev. I think Maskaev wins this after landing some hard rights hands against the slow but durable Valuev. The big Achilles heel for Maskaev was his chin and defensive lapses. I think the slowness of his opponent helps him win a decision after landing some shots that would take out anyone else.
