Nikolay Valuev: Give Some Sugar To The 7 Foot Russian Behemoth Of Saint Petersburg.

I liked Valuev not the best but just interesting to watch

Did he decline quickly? I remember him having a solid right hand but he didn't use it much after his Barrett fight

Did the opposition take it away from him or did he decline

 

The Haye fight was a disgrace

Haye talked up how he was gonna KO him and spent the whole fight on the run

You could see Vsluev desperately wanted to make it a fight and Haye not so much

Thanks for bumping this, it actually caused me to rewatch some of these fights. I remember him often being looked at as a joke at the times, a beltholder that was a side show next to the Klitschkos... and while that's not completely false - it doesn't give him the credit he deserves either.

He was literally giant, had great fundamentals, and the discipline to keep himself in good shape (and a surprisingly high work-rate).

No one has an easy night with Valuev, even if he isn't an "ATG"! As other have mentioned, the Haye fight was despicable from Haye... Then the way he stunk the joint out vs Klitschko as well, and finishing his career off by getting trounced by Bellew.. Haye is probably one of the most over-rated heavyweights of the last two decades..

He had nothing on Sir Jackson England. A true David vs Goliath battle. Sir Jackson being David and Valuev being Goliath but David would win with one swipe of a left hook that would go crashing into Goliath's jaw.

 

Valuev was around for a very long time and his gigantism would not have helped his athletic durability. Who knows, it may have even effected his power. I say this because I became aware of Valuev, years before the rest of the world. He and Kostya Tszyu were friendly from their younger USSR days. Kostya had him brought out here to Australia to fight on an undercard early days and Kostya bragged at the pre-card presser that Valuev 'never gets hurt'. Valuev scored one of the most impressive and scary KO's that I had witnessed up to that point, literally lifted his opponent into orbit. I never forgot him and would often mention to my Dad, " I wonder what ever happened to the giant Russian? ". So I was happy, years later when he started popping up on German cards and I then started reading about the exploitive circus his previous promoters had enforced upon him. I was glad he got some overdue success.

 

I was always a fan of Valuev, I liked his style. Big respect.

 

He was a very hairy man.
