Boxrec has the 1934 date correct (28/12/1934 to be precise), supported by newspaper reports. But, Buddy was still a prospect at this stage and doesn't look out of place, as such. His brother, Max Baer was the Champ at the time and fought on the same card, against King Levinsky. I can only assume this was an exhibition bout, since Boxrec does not list this bout in Max's ledger.
