The two greatest European mws will be putted into the ring against each other - outside of Fitzsimmons whose nationality isn´t clearly definable. Who prevails?
Cerdan may have won on points thru sheer aggression. I do think that Nino is underrated by some...he wasn't just a typical fragile European prettyboy boxer type..he showed his stuff in all three bouts with Emile Griffith and fought like a man even in losing to Carlos Monzon the first time...the senc time Monzon was all over him of course, but to be fair, it was Nino at the very end of his career. I'll still say that Cerdan would have outhustled Nino over 15, but it would have been a very competitive fight.
Cerdan's pressure, speed and pace see him to a solid decision win. Benvenuti could not keep Cerdan outside, and Benvenuti isn't comfortable fighting inside. He might stop Benvenuti late.
So far everyone picked Cerdan. Anymore opinions? I saw Luigi1985 posting in the general a few days ago, perhaps he is still reading here and wants to add his opinion? Was a fine poster with excellent knowledge about the Italian fighters that one.
I will say that there's a chance that Nino would have edged Cerdan in a rematch...Nino was very good in rematches...and he DID have good firepower, as he was revealing in some of the last wins of his career, as with Rodriguez, Baird and Bethea.
Aint seen too much on Cerdan but does anyone think benvenuti has the reach and firepower to keep Cerdan off?
