Who wins the battle of the big numbers!! both of these fighters fought for the welter crown.........but neither managed to win it. larocca was an african living in italy and he surprisingly lost the first time he challenged for the eurobelt, going down against against a featherfisted french fighter in six rounds. two fights later, he challenged donald curry and got completely outclassed. yet during his career he managed to beat a few decent names such as harold volbrecht, pete ranzany and manning galloway. he managed to win the eurobelt for a short period after that loss, but he never again challenged for the belt. campas had a big ko record going into his fight with trinidad, but he had not beaten any top names. his best win was vs decent roger turner for the USBA belt......but that was a really close fight!! vs trinidad he put up a good fight, dropping trinidad but getting stopped due to a broken nose in four. he was also stopped by jose luis lopez in five in a try for the WBO belt.........but he eventually won the IBF jr. middle belt from raul marquez, eventually losing it to fernando vargas. he is still active as a journeyman. so who wins?? i pick campas by 8th round ko.
What's really interesting about this fight is the total contrast in styles yet the same weakness in both fighters... their heart. LaRocca ould easily outspeed the flat-footed and forward only Campas with his exceptional lateral movement, blazing handspeed and cobra-like reflexes. But Campas was relentless and all he'd probably need was a couple of well-placed body shots to cave in the front-running Mali-born Italian. But would he get in even a single decent shot? I see LaRocca outrunning Campas over twelve.
