Very good fight. Two tough guys who could both punch and were close in size. Chuvalo had the better chin and Valdez the better punch. Both could be inconsistent. I’m leaning towards chuvalo by either a decision or late stoppage but I wouldn’t place any bets.
Voted for Chuvalo decision. Steady, consistent and will work 3 minutes a round to win a fairly pedestrian verdict. Nino has his explosive moments but isn’t a grinder nor does he have the skill set to dictate terms and make it more of a boxing match. Lotta mauling.
Valdes the more proven fighter and beat Charles, granted a faded version but one who still went on to give Marciano hell and nearly win back the heavyweight championship.
The problem with Niño is that he looked like he had the makings of a star, but he simply wasn’t. Never quite won the big one or the one that he needed to get the title shot. So I will take Chuvalo.
Chuvalo by UD or maybe late TKO, Valdez was big guy with good but not great punch, his chin was not good and skills weren't neither.
