Quarry by dec. I think Valdes is a trifle overated.Big slow heavies suited Jerry , I believe he takes this one.

I would tip Quarry to win but it is not a given.

Quarry ate up big brawling lugs like Lye and Foster but Valdez could actually jab and cut him up. Tough call. :huh

Agreed. I can see scenarios with either fighter winning. Quarry had big wins against some Valdes-ish fighters, but also was ground down by an aging Chuvalo, who surely was no better or more powerful than a peak Valdes.

I know this is a while ago, but I want to give a point here.

Sure Valdes may have had a jab, but it was a front foot kind of jab to create opportunities, and I feel Quarry could counter this kind of jab as Valdes would be in range after throwing it, and Quarry is quick.

It was more so the jab and move kind of guys Quarry struggled with, as he struggled to close of the ring or chase a moving opponent, if you were coming to him, or staying in range after punches, he was a brilliant counter and combination puncher, even against the jab if you were gonna go at him.

Quarry by wide points decision or even late stoppage here.

Quarry by unanimous decision or stoppage. I never though Nino was any good.
    I predict they'll never fight.

Methinks Chuvalo was better than Valdes and so was Quarry. And I don't give 100 percent credence to George's win over Jerry. That was flukey.

Valdez was a big heavyweight for the mid fifties. He was 6 3 78 reach 209 lbs was winning for a while beat E Charles and Cockell in 3 rounds and considered the 1# contender for a while. Ultimately he couldn’t beat the 2 best LHs of the day and when the new breed came in later fifties they beat him decisively: Machen Folley Liston.
Quarry would get inside and pound him. UD or late TKO for Jerry.

Picking Quarry but you never know which Quarry you will get. Nino had fast hands for his size but his defense imo would lead to him being out pointed.

I kinda like quarry to win on skill. Valdez had some big wins but was very streaky and inconsistent

I think Jerry, at least until he got frayed and ring-worn, had a ceiling. He was a ‘beat the guys you’re supposed to beat (some of whom were pretty good) and lose to the guys you’re supposed to lose to’ type in my mind.

I think Valdez, who was an awkward guy, could puzzle him for a while and would have some success, but I don’t think he could sustain it over a distance before Jerry got busy and outworked him for a competitive but clear decision.

Depends on what Quarry shows up. When Quarry was living right and motivated he was hard to beat and I'd pick him over Valdez, but unfortunately it was the other Quarry that usually showed up.
