Valdes should be able to beat him, Morrison had power but a middleweight chin...Valdes had power but nothing great...on second look this could go either way
I'm kind of up in the air about this one too. Valdez was a big man with a decent punch, who beat better fighters than Morrison beat, but at the same time, also lost to lesser men as well. Of course Tommy was stopped in one by a guy like Bentt, arguably gifted against Purity... I guess its a matter of who's at the top of their game and who is the luckier of the two.
Good match-up. Morrison at his best was quick and had good head movement by using a combination of the bob and weave, peak a boo, and cross arm defense. His left hook was awesome. His chin was not great and sometimes he did not stick to his fight plan. Oscar was a tough son of a *****. Strong, durable, with good power. He was only stopped once... 3 knockdowns resulting in a 15 round TKO by Ali in 1970. He was also down vs. Zora Folley and Jimmy Ellis x2. he lost to Joe Frazier LmD10 (he dropped Frazier x2) and L15 (for the NYSAC HW belt). Morrison was quicker and punched harder, would that be enough?
Tommy morrison had solid wins over old foreman and ruddock and won wars with truth williams and joe hipp. I would say they outrank valdes edging out an out of sorts ezzard charles who was overworked and over weight for their fight. what was valdes next best win? Morrison should not have lost to michael bentt but then valdes should not have lost to a lot of guys either. Both were game but morrison was just better on film.
