The fight was literally just starting, benavidez was starting to get into 2nd gear. Andrade could hardly take 1 round of what was about to happen over the next 6. The second he felt that pressure he gave up.
He was on the road to a brutal beating. I knew it was over when the round ended and you could just see his face and the way he was walking back to his corner. No way in hell he was coming back out there.
A corner knows there fighter and you could see them looking at him while talking and knowing that he's not gonna say it but they can tell, he doesn't want to go back out there. That's there job and they did it.
Showing heart is part of your job description when you're a professional fighter. Just tune into British cards and see how much heart there is on display from British warriors every weekend. I'm not one of these guys who sticks the boot in when fighters quit unless they're a real POS but I do think Boo Boo showed heart in the fight. He was really struggling to stay afloat and he was trying really hard to hang in there as long as he could and not get drowned even though it was all one way traffic and his offence and defence had completely fallen to pieces. The alarming thing is how quickly they did fall to pieces. It didn't take long for the tide of the fight to change complete direction as soon as Benavidez started to put hands on him. I knew Benavidez would roll right over him when he did start landing with consistency but I didn't expect him to become a sitting duck that early.
Andrade was taking a beating for several rounds. The fact that Benavidez had more to give isn't relevant. Andrade was in there with a much bigger and stronger fight and was getting battered and yet he kept coming back.
He gave up. He was getting his ass beat and he knew it wasn't going to get any better and didn't think he could get lucky or aguantar and turn it around late so he gave up. I prefer that to refs stopping fights under the same circumstances when the stopped guy is on both feet and willing to bet he can take the beating and turn it around somehow. It was fun while it lasted. I'll give Andrade that and I would rather watch him than either of the herbivore Charlitos.
But he didn't go out on his shield. Let's not romanticize it. He gave up. He fought hard, made a calculation I would guess regarded diminishing returns and then gave up. Considering the last couple of PPVs, I'll take it. The bar is pretty ****ing low these days.
Brutal assessment. Andrade was getting absolutely punished. Benavidez clinic. One of the last rounds was a massacre Lucky Andrade has a respectful corner Andrade had no business continuing.
