Calzaghe on points - RJJ might look good initially but if he does Calzaghe will adapt his gameplan and outwork him. Don't think Calzaghe's hands are strong enough to force a stoppage, although he has been saying that both hands are feeling strong.

Sticking to the rules asked by the thread starter......

I voted Calzaghe on pts because I believe Jones is further from his prime than Joe but I feel he has just enough left to last the distance tho I suspect he will look really winded from about rd 8 or 9 onwards & may even lose every rd in the last 3rd.

Ps. I`ll be hoping for a Calzaghe KO/TKO victory tho.

Calzaghe will win this easily may even stop RJJ. Jones recent performances have been flattering due to the very poor level of opposition he has faced. While Calzaghe has declined he's not as bad as he looked against Hopkins who makes even fighters who beat him look terrible.

He couldn't even KO a blown up welter/light middle in Tito how on earth is he going to KO Calzaghe?

It´s easy to look good to inferior opposition, it´s harder to do so against top opposition. That´s the major point why Calzaghe looks not as good today as then.

If Jones was younger and hungrier, I'd take him. However, even with Joe Cal's unblemished record he has been scrutinized as not taking big fights, ducking better competition, so he has alot to prove to his critics. I personally like him and acknowledge his accomplishments, unlike alot of my American counterparts. I believe his speed will be Jones undoing and predict a late stoppage.

Yeah, I have to agree. I'm picking Calzaghe by UD (don't think he is able to stop Jones), but I still have hope for the upset... go Roy!!! :D

    I feel you man ;)

Casaghe by stoppage. I'm not sure if Jones has enough in the tank to go the full distance.

If Jones does manage to hold on - I say Calzaghe easy UD.

In the last eleven months Joe has beat Kessler and an old Hopkins who are both operating at perhaps grade A level - so to speak. Many state Kessler is A+ or even elite! (time will tell).
Therefore we have to assume that Joe is still operating at least around these levels to beat these opponents.

Roy Jones got beat on points, and ktfo by Tarver, and Glen Johnson (both who could be argued (not saying they are) to be on a similar level to Kessler and an old popkins) - 5 years ago.

It is folly to say that Joe is much past his prime; because he simply would not have beat Kessler, and Popkins (both within the last eleven months) if he is. He would have lost those fights.

In his prime Jones would have won fairly easily. If Jones really goes for it he could get Calzaghe out of there but he is historically a very cautious fighter. That said, I don't think Calzaghe has enough power in his brittle hands to give Jones reason for pause.

    RJJ by majority verdict.

Yep, Calzaghe is a piece of ****, no doubt about it. Hope Jones breaks his face, but I doubt it'll happen. Would DEFINATELY have happened back when they should have fought though, and we all know why that didn't happen - Calslappy is a cowardly Welsh **** :yep

Well 43 year old Hopkins certainly made Calslappy look terrible when he put him on his arse with the first meaningful punch he threw, that's for sure. I still think Hopkins won that fight, as do many others. I think Calslappy will probably win this fight but like everything else in Calslappys sorry career it's meaningless.

Whether you think Calzaghe will beat Jones by points or Knockout is alright but please give us a little explanation as to how the fight will unfold instead of continuously pointing out that Jones is past his best or shot and Calzaghe just beat excellent fighters lately...

Analyze the styles and possible advantages and / or problems for both instead !

Roy Jones may be past his best but he still brings more to the table at this stage of his career, than anyone Calzaghe has faced before !!

Is Miguel Cotto shot now that he lost by TKO ? So Let's analyze the styles and put the past to rest a little for now....
