So instead of 3 minutes on and 1 minute off a boxer only leaves his corner once he never gets the chance to sit on his stool again it is just 36 minutes of action to decide the winner.

What do you think would be the great upsets we would see with a shift in rules?
Fantasy fights of course. Imagine say Chuvalo outlasting Fury or something like that.

I think it’s beyond being able to speculate which particular fighters would thrive or completely wash out under such a complete reinvention of the sport.

Fighters would not fight the same. Most bouts would be very slow-paced, boring affairs with lots of pauses and lulls.

It'd greatly favour guys who are good at controlling the fight.

I was going to say it'd make swarming styles like Armstrong less viable. Then I imagined Armstrong attacking for 10min straight. I think it'd make it even higher risk, but damn it could be effective. You might even see more people going gung ho, knowing their opponents' won't get any breaks between rounds to recover of they hurt them.

    Speculative, but interesting

Any who cuts easily is going to be in trouble.

It wouldn't be as bad for bonafide KO artists, especially those who can hold on to their power later and have proven 15 round stamina already. I think Sullivan and Fitzsimmons have the attributes to adapt well (not mentioning rulesets, that's another argument). Fighters like Olivares etc. would also do well IMO - anyone trying to box them wouldn't have the luxury of recovery or being saved by the bell. They'd just accumulate punishment.

    Ali v Cooper I.

We’ll pretend the first three 1 minute breaks after rds 1,2 and 3 were complimentary allowing for a slightly less harsh transition to absolutely no breaks thereafter.

Does Cooper finish the job upon a none too steady Ali’s rise? Based on his known future and proven resilience, do we allow some credit and guess Ali has it in him to survive the follow up and still go on to slice and dice Cooper as he did in reality? Does Dundee find another excuse to cause the ref to interrupt the action and actually succeed in buying his man time? His torn glove routine actually only bought Ali about 4 secs and that was after the 1 minute rest during which Ali had to be sat back down with smelling salts applied.

Straight off the canvas at the count of 4 and still semi out of it, is Ali ripe for the picking for Ol’ ‘Enry?

It would fundamentally change the sport and how fighters approach it.
