That is a terrible post..........no wonder people argue with you about it Almost as bad as your putting Arthur at number one in the GB Lightweight rankings...... First Calzaghe only won because a TV network had an erection and then Alex Arthur must be number 1 at LW because he's never fought at the weight before and is coming off a loss.......... This kind of input is why guys respect you on here so much maybe?
calzaghe will be mentioned in the same breath and rightfully so ottke was never willing to fight JC even in germany, not vise versa
yeah it was close but joe did enough to win it in my eyes, and thats the measure of a true champ aint it, finding a way to win. hopkins could make ANYONE look bad fighting the way he did against joe, spoiling, holding and bitchin like a woman. ive always been a hopkins fan and still am but why didnt he take the fight to joe like he did to pavlik? he did a very good job of taking joe out of his stride but then didnt take advantage. i dont blame hopkins for wanting a rematch after such a close fight but its not gonna happen, he's got to face up to it and move on.
:-( Your first post on Calzaghe was good. But this second post lets you down - its bollocks. There is no evidence Bernard Hopkins underperformed in that fight. He just came up against a fighter who is deceptively good. Hopkins was able to dominate Trinidad and Tarver and Pavlik but you think that because he couldnt dominate Joe he had a "off" night :-( Your just refusing to give Calzaghe credit. Hopkins could not do to Calzaghe what he could to the others. He could not dominate him. Joe Calzaghe is deceptively good. And its the opposite of what you say - Bernard Hopkins was very motivated - it was Calzaghe who didnt take the challenge seriously - he said he couldnt get up for the fight and I believe him. He was not impressed with Hopkins dominating little guys like De La Hoya and Trindad and thought he would win easy. He came out very flat in his ring walk half asleep it was Hopkins flooring him that made him wake up and realise he was actually in a real fight. Hopkins got up for a young undefeated guy like Pavlik but you say not for Calzaghe :-( Once again this is bollocks Your refusing to give Cazlaghe credit A moitvated Hopkins fought Joe and could not dominate, got knackered and was forced to feign and cheat his way to get to the end of 12 rounds Robin Reid landed on Calzaghe all night way back in 1999 - like Calzaghe said the Calzaghe of today would hammer the Calzaghe of 5 years ago let alone 10 years ago, he improved all the time with experience Hopkins caught Joe sleeping and caught Joe cold, he couldnt put a dent in him after that If Hopkins throws more and actually wanted to get in a tough 12 round all out fight he would get stopped............he feigned and cheated his way too the end cause he couldnt handfle the pace and thats when he was fighting defensively. Fighting offensively takes up more energy and you take more punshiment. Calzaghe would overwhelm him. I am one of the minority who would love to see a rematch but its no wonder Calzaghe dont want it. Its unappealing and unmotivating for him and yes it is a tough rematch but Calzaghe feels its not worth it. Which is understandable.
nice post flint, i heard JC wernt happy about his weight as well, cant find a source for that though, could have been an interview with THE SUN
What I don't understand is that people suggest Hopkins wasn't motivated against Calzaghe. Complete BOLLOCKS. Why can't people just admit that Hopkins didn't fight Calzaghe the way he fought Pavlik because it would be a tactical **** up of the highest order. Hopkins is a very clever man, he fought the way he fought against Joe because that was the only way he could possibly win surely that isn't too hard to understand? Hopkins fighting Calzaghe the way he fought Pavlik would result in a wide UD for Calzaghe.
Ditto...theres no proof whatsoever that Hopkins was either poorly motivated or under performed in that fight esp. To say he would throw more punches if he was better motivated is just clutching at straws.
