Cotto is going to take some time off after the devastating T/KO loss to Antonio Margarito.

I just read that the main reason(s) why Cotto folded in the latter rounds was contributed to his nose issue, the bodyshots, and the constant pressure of Margarito.

I know based on his body language that he wasn't comfortable during the fight w/ the pressure that was put on him, even though thats what he's known for.

He truly got a taste of his own medicine ... so much that he abandon the advice of his corner and the plan set in training camp.

What do you guy think of the status of Miguel Cotto from this point on?

I know that a possible showdown with the recent retired PBF is out of the question ... the attempt to lure him out and show him that he was the man to beat was failed and now he might actually have to go back to the drawing board.

To be honest I don't think we'll see Cotto fight again this year. He'll take a long rest and may think about getting a new trainer that can help him improve on his defense.

the night it happened i couldnt think of any options cotto had at the moment. but now that it has soaked it i think he can still come back. im sure he will eventually want a re-match. he def does have to go back to the drawing board and come with a diff strategy if he does fight margo again. guys like berto, winner of judah/clottey, even cintron are just some options he has.

Who could he have as a potential comeback opponent?

Could it be for a title?

I don't want to see him again this year for the sake of his health. I think it will be too soon and 5 to 6 months of rest will do him good.

He should be back in '09 fresh and extra motivated.

I would say he either gets a title shot or he takes an easier one.....knowing Cotto he'll take a title shot.

I hope he takes some time off. Miguel should rest for 5-6 months, and then fight somebody off the "C" list just to get back in the swing of things. His career is far from over. It makes me sick to see people talk so much **** about him. Before the fight Margo and Cotto were interchangeable at #2 and #3 on my list of current favorites, and THEY STILL ARE. Hell, after all these years I'm still a Bronco McKart fan. I'm sure not going to abandon Cotto over a loss to a monster like Tony!

Some r&r and a thorough review of the tape would seem a good idea.

I'm finding that you and I see eye to eye quite a lot m8. (Was gonna call you boo for short but that is my term of inderement for my missus so we will just leave it at m8.) The people that came on this board talking **** about cotto are disrespectful cocks, that have probably never been in the ring and actualy felt what a lonely and scarey place it can be. They sit behing their computers and tv's and critisise othere without the balls to get off their fat asses and try it themselves. Cotto is still my #1 favourite fighter with margo still #3. This fight has not changed a thing. It was a great tough fight, and cotto should have nothing to be ashamed of. He was taking quite a bit of punishment and there was no reason to take anymore. That would have just been stupid and we could have possibly seen another badly damaged fighter whos carreer may well have been over. He lived to fight another day, that is all.

I think cotto needs the rest, he has had some tough fights and he deserves it. Come back fresher (maybe with a new trainer) and eventualy if he wants a rematch with margo I think he will change his gameplan a little, knowing what he will be facing full well this time and I can see him beeing able to beat Tony. Then who knows. Maybe we will have a great trilogy n our hands. Or, tony may just be too strong and we could have a carbon copy of Arguello - Pryor. Speaking of arguello, do those **** talkers believe arguello is any less of a man for not getting off the canvas against Pryor. NO. You know why. Because it was just the realisation that he could not beat the man, so why get hurt in the process?

what i hope Cotto does is pretty much what boo said. take some time off, get a new trainer, and gradually go toward a rematch with Marg.

He should take the rest of the year off. Come back sometime next year, maybe have a fight in Puerto Rico against a tune-up....sorta like Hatton after the Mayweather fight to get his confidence back.
