Not true at all. Lampley was up Pac's ass for the Clottey fight. I thought Pac won wide (shut out?) on activity, but Pac didn't dominate him because Clottey was built like a tank and shelled up.
I am trying to compile such a list of fights that fall into this. Like you I want to watch a fight without the incessant droning of a commentator who knows less than most boxing fans. If you know of any post them here or maybe there are a few of interest to you in this thread. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/recorded-fights-with-no-commentary.628666/
Even if you were the miraculous person you are trying to come across as, and you were able to not have it impact you one iota....the noise and talking is also a distraction....you know, probably why official judges are not talking to people or listening to them during fights. Most people can acknowledge that it is 1 a distraction and 2 intentional about trying to tell you what you are seeing rather than ones own eyes.... It's no surprise that Floyd has often expressed his preference that the fight should be broadcast on his network affiliate, Showtime Sports. The pound for pound fighter is wise enough to realize that a pro-Mayweather broadcast team could drastically influence the way most fight fans view the action as it unfolds in the ring. Should commentators like Al Bernstein, Paulie Malignaggi, Jim Lampley, and Max Kellerman be trusted to call the action without an obvious slant in favor of their respective network's fighter? https://www.fightsaga.com/news/item/5233-Mayweather-vs-Pacquiao-2015-commentators As he sits ringside alongside HBO's Roy Jones Jr., Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant, he intentionally won't wear headphones. He does not want to hear what they're saying. "I judge the fight exactly the way the judges see it," says Lederman, 72. "Let me tell you the truth, the headphones magnify the blows and makes it sound like the roof is caving in." As for hearing the announcers, Lederman says their points would only be a distraction. "I don't want to listen to them. I don't want to hear anything about, say, Pacquiao's family. My job is only to explain to the public how the fight should be scored. I worked that out a long time ago." Something he saw while at home watching a fight on HBO in 1986 led to TV. "I thought that what I was looking at and what the commentators were saying weren't the same thing. So I called HBO and said I thought they should hire a boxing judge." https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/1751537 I am not sure if you are being arrogant or just intellectually disingenuous?
This content is protected When fans watch this with commentating, they're still harping on what happened the previous round that they're painting a picture that Pacquiao still has Marquez where he wants him and ready to put him away. They paint a picture that say's Pacqiuao is dominating and in control. The real truth shines bright in its raw form, Marquez having weathered the storm of the previous round picking Pacquiao's advances apart and setting him up for that monumental shot to come. This round is phenomenal without commentating, just the arena sounds, and it would be that much better if they mic'd the ring and we could hear the sound of the punches and Marquez and Pacquiao's breath's.
I'm sorry that you're incapable of following your own judgement based on what you see and not what you're being told. It's not that uncommon — this is how we identify robberies. Idiot.
I know this is how “you” identify robberies. Because Paulie told you so lol. I will leave the idiot name calling to you and your ilk as you seem to struggle with having dialogue with someone with a counter point. Good luck
I am trying not to listen to commentary anymore. They can confuse me. They say punches land when they don't to add excitement. Subconsciously, they can still influence you.
An option to mute would be nice, however I understand commentary as the initial means to describe a fight. We're talking when radio was it. One had to depend & hope they were accurate. I agree today each commentator wants to have that moment, where (their) voice becomes a part of that history. Think Cosell "DOWN GOES FRAZIER DOWN GOES FRAZIER!" Merchant "We have a new era" Tyson stopping Berbick. Lampley "IT HAPPENED!" Foreman winning the title Joe Tessitore "OH MY OH MY THIS FIGHT IS OOOOOooover!" Dingaling Man stopping Nwodo. And my funny fav from Lennox "ITS OV-AH! From HBO to Shobox, I understand it is their job to HYPE the fighters on their network. Sometimes they're annoying sometimes they're on point. I'm sure if everyone here was given a chance, we'd say something we wish we could take back!
I agree the commentators can be annoying, regardless of who's calling the fight. Muting commentary as an option could be something in the future, who knows.
