No doubt in my mind that prime Whitaker would've schooled & embarrassed Trinidad.

So I'm chillin' watching the Trinidad/Whitaker fight from back in the day and I forgot that for as flat footed as Whitaker was, he was still making Trinidad miss like a mo'fo. He was making him look foolish and counter punching at will. Whitaker was going toe to toe with Trinidad and Whitaker was a much smaller man and a cokehead at the time. Imagine how foolish a prime Whitaker would've made Trinidad look. Whitaker surprised me in this fight and should be given a lot more credit for taking on this type of fight at that stage of his career/life.

A prime Whitaker might have won every minute of every round against Trinidad on a good night.

I doubt he 'embarrasses' him. Tito's looong accurate shots would nullify some of Pernell's slickness. Pernell actually tried to be the aggressor against Tito when they fought, especially early because Tito was too good of a pressure fighter, bigger than Pernell too.

In 99 Trinidad landed 50%+ of his power shots on compubox, which was the same system that had him catching around 25% against other fighters. Tito was accurate against Pernell.

    HOWEVER!

I agree. Prime for prime Whitaker has a ****in field day!

PS I love round seven of that fight when Whitaker cripples Tito with body shots and lands perfect left hands down the middle and a great uppercut. Shows the fighting guts only a great fighter can when under fire!

Pernell was aggressive because his reflexes had deserted him! Nothing to do with pressure. Tito was notoriously slow on his feet and wouldn't have posed a prime Whitaker ANY problems with his aggression.

If De La Hoya can make an arse of Tito with movement, you can take it to the bank that a prime Whitaker could!

styles make fights. Whitaker has an easier time with Oscar than he does with Tito.
I'm not sure who I pick

The Whitaker who faced Trinidad was not THEE Pernell Whitaker.

Pernell's use of angles and overall defensive magic would **** Tito up bigtime if this was a prime for prime fight.

I gave the 1997 bout with Oscar to Pernell by a round or two and I consider De La Hoya a far more versatile fighter than Tito. It should be mentioned that Whitaker was superior in that fight to the version that showed up in 1999 against Trinidad.

Whitaker was a better fighter but Tito may have still been too big and strong.

Too big and strong for what? If Trinidad couldn't ko Whitaker when he was old, slow and on that coke what makes you think he could do it when Whitaker was on his game?:huh

The Whitataker from the Chavez fight would have shut out Tito IMO. Maybe not completly shut out but pretty damn close.
