Margarito by passed Cotto because back then so many people, including a **** load on ESB, were mentioning that Williams was the toughest guy at 147 after PBF, and if Margarito was fighting Cotto instead, he would simply be ducking Williams and take the lesser risk fight !!!

So Margarito figured he would fight Williams, therefore keep his belt, shut up the critics and then unify with Cotto in November of that year, instead of just fighting for 1 belt (WBA)....

What's so hard to understand there, unless people just don't want to understand, including Kevin Iole ?

You're right. Also Paul Williams publicly called Margo out after his fight on HBO. He said "Nobody wants to fight Margarito, well I'll fight him. Lets get it on.." or something like that. If Margo didn't fight him there would be an article about him ducking Wiliams. You can't get around this ****. The guy is now fighting both of them, leave him alone. :good

Kevin is a clown....look, PW was a tougher challenge for Marg then and now. Cotto isn't an easy foe...not at all, but to say that Cotto is a tougher challenge than Paul is laughable. Paul is a nightmare come to life at 147. He's young still but a Champion none the less and he's proven himself to be a tough challenge for anyone in the WW division. by Marg accepting a Paul fight over cotto didn't make much sense to me but Marg held that WBO title for a long time and he may have wanted to keep that WBO strap. Either way Marg took on a more difficult test in a young, strong and physically imposing Paul Williams.

Pretty stupid article given that Margarito is fighting Cotto tomorrow night.

When Margarito stops Cotto this will all be irrelevant.

Does Iole have a brain? He just said it. It makes no sense whatsoever, it never did. Margarito was acting on instructions from Top Rank when he opted for Williams. (That's a theory that actually employs common sense as opposed to pointing out that the situation "makes no sense," and then just leaving it there floating in the air) Top Rank took it's chance to make a far more lucrative matchup with Judah and they changed plans. Fighters like Cotto and Margarito are chess pieces, they don't argue with Trampler and Arum. That's absolutely ridiculous. You don't "duck" fighters last year and then come back begging to fight them 12-13 months later, and vacate because you care so much about keeping your titles.

    Lets get this **** straight. . .

Arum wanted AM to take a gimme fight on the undercard of Cotto-Urkal instead of facing PW, as a tuneup/showcase fight to set up AM-Cotto back then. AM would have had to give up his belt for a gimme fight and duck PW . .. AM basically told Arum "**** you" I aint passing by PW for a gimme fight. If he was to gie up the belt for an immediate fight with Cotto Im sure he would have done that, but that wasnt the choice Arum gave him.

This is what fighters are supposed to do, seek out the biggest possible challenges. Its exactly what AM did and thats why true boxing fans are AM fans.

Iole is an idiot. Really. He's one of those morons who buy into careful matchmaking and true hype. Drinking the kool aid, so to speak.

Anyone who thinks Margarito is nothing but hype is also an idiot. The guy has never had it easy. So to assume his rep is based on nothing but hype is moronic, to say the least.

Yeah, a 6'2 southpaw with an 82 inch wingspan who throws 100+ punches a round is a real soft touch.

The arthor does not ever once mention that Margarito took the fight with Williams ( another opponent who claims to be ducked) because he thought he would win the fight against another feared undefeated fighter, thus proving a point.
It did not go his way, however.
Although I thought he beat the crap out of Williams ( whose face showed it after the fight) The judges didn't see it the way I did.
    I guess that's why they're judges and I'm not.
