When you started out talking about most hyped fighter of all time, I thought you were talking about De La Hoya. He is obviously the most hyped and one of the most popular fighters of all time. Oscar was the most beloved fighter of his generation, but he was far from the best. He fell well behind Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Hopkins, and Shane Mosely (if you consider Floyd of that generation, he surpasses Oscar.

Duran was a legend with 2 of the heaviest hands in boxing history.

De La Hoya isn't even in Duran's league. The guy lost to Mosley (2x), Trinidad, Hopkins, Pacquiao... He fought the best and he always came up short..Why would this time be any different?

 

Duran was overrated. He fought mediocre guys and lightweight, moved up and started losing, but had the excuse that he was not serious, when fact is the guys he fought later had better skills and jabs, which was the second key to beating Duran. First was foot movement.

 

Yeah Oscar is in Duran's league. fighting mediocre guys at lightweight and then losing to all the great legends he fought says that Delahoya is not in Duran's league? Dejesus beat Duran at lightweight, why couldn't Oscar at 140, since at 135 Oscar was not ready for Duran.

 

At 147 its competitive but Duran does Everything better. Oscar has a great punch, speed, a chin but he doesn't box. Defensively its a mismatch, its also a mismatch on the inside. Duran by KO

The problem with this thread is the problem with ESB in general when comparing these two fighters. It comes down to a comparison between Duran's best wins and DLH's losses. Duran gets elevated to a position that leaves out his losses including the second Leonard fight as if it was another fighter altogether being talked about and leaving out him getting completely smoked by Hearns while also leaving out Hoya's career at his most competitive as if he never fought a fight before Trinidad (who he fought in the same manner as Leonard fought Duran in the 2nd fight). These type of arguments are just cut and paste jobs, smoke and mirrors.

 

Come on bro. He wasnt serious. You cant count that, he just wasnt trying!
