No fighter can be at his best at 35 and over. It's biologically impossible.

okay lets cut to the chase

ggg is past prime and has been for a while, whether or not he beats or looses to canelo. his work rate is lower.

that doesn't mean that canelo gets no credit, GGG is still the top MW. Canelo gets a helluva credit from me even if he wins via robbery simply because i don't think he can manage to last even 10 rounds.

no excuses, just facts. loosing is loosing regardless of whether or not your in your prime. we don't know how canelo would have done against a prime ggg, the discussion is moot.

Moore enjoyed what was probably the single best run of his career after the age of 35. He won 21 straight, finally won the world LH title and defended it 5 times. And, it's not like his level of competition tapered off very much during that time. Harold Johnson, Nino Valdes, Bobo Olson, Clarence Henry and Joey Maxim among others, were all good scalps to have.

So, it's possible. Just extremely uncommon.

He was more relaxed in his second career and his stamina was better as a result, I think. In that regard, he was better.

Exactly, that "gluten free" diet Djokovic went on in 2011 propelled him to 11 grand slam titles.

But there is no way anyone can look at those two fighters and suggest comeback foreman was a better fighter.

Mental prime yes but physical prime sadly nowhere near and his last fight at 41 he went life and death with someone he would of ate for breakfast in his prime.

pulling something out of your a*&% and claiming it's based on "just facts" is kinda lame

but at least your post does mention the particular facts you claim to have relied on to support GGG's obvious decline--ie, "workrate"

so let's see if GGG's workrate over time actually evidences his decline

you didn't say when GGG's decline began but you did say it began a while ago, so i took the Lemieux fight as a possible start, since the fight was a little less than 2 years ago.

    here are GGG's workrate stats:

for the six most recent fights from Lemieux forward:

average punches landed per round: 27
average punches thrown per round: 66

for the nine fights prior to the Lemieux fight:

average punches landed per round: 26
average punches thrown per round: 67

so over the past two years, GGG has thrown one less punch per round compared to the three year period before that--pretty alarming reduction in workrate, no wonder you were so decisive about the issue in your post.

but wait...in his recent fights, he's actually landed one more punch per round, so maybe he's actually improving?

(note: for fights that ended before the round ends, as all but one of GGG's has, i counted the round in which the fight was stopped as a fractional round--for instance, if the fight was stopped at 1:30 in round 5, then i divided his total punches throw or landed by 4.5 to get per round workrate)

GGG is past his prime.. When everyone wanted the fight.. Canelo was pre prime.. What do people want? They're fighting Sept 16th regardless. Prime GGG we don't know what he was because he fought nothing but Tomato cans. Blame him
