Liston underestimated Ali and didn't train hard enough. Couple that with him being older than stated, and having a shoulder injury, and the outcome of the match doesn't surprise you anymore. I still favor Ali to win, but I reckon Liston would have put up a better fight.

I wouldn't pick anyone in one fight. Again, IMHO, if Ali fought all the greats, 10 times each, he would lose decisions occasionally. Anyone can lose a decision, just as anyone can be stopped. One way to outpoint him, but not the only way, would be to pressure him constantly and knock him down a few times during the fight.

If Ali fought all the greats, 10 times each, he'd have countless defeats, either on points or by being KOd.
Same as anyone else. NOBODY, and I mean literally NOBODY goes through 10 fights against all the other ATGs without getting KOd at least once, even if it's by some dumb luck on his opponent's part.

Took control ? You have a vivid imagination. Against Norton in particular he could never really get his boxing rhythm or timing. Norton nullified Ali's left jab. Kenny's stance made him tough to find with the right. Ali could get up on his toes but usually ate clean shots from Norton. Ali ended up on the ropes anyway.

That would be one of Mr Ali's toughest fights imo.

Excellent...guys like Ali hate pressure fighters....he's backing up all night long! I remember an article that said"Jack Dempsey didn't have to back up to win...Joe Louis didn't back up to win...Rocky Marciano didn't back up to win...how does Clay keep backing up and winning fights?

Only that Ken Norton outpointed 1973 Muhammad Ali and 1976 Ali, a 1967 Ali had all his gifts, speed, reflexes, footwork, and stamina, no Rope A Dope back then.

1967 might get robbed in a close fight with prime larry Holmes...

Norton CLEARLY lost the 2nd bout on any non-objective scorecard. He also lost the third on mine.

He never clearly lost to Ali. The 2nd fight could have went either way. Kenny just had the guy's #.

My comment was tongue and cheek but Kenny won in Yankee Stadium.
