I was thinking someone might debate the point but it certainly hasn't happened at this time. Was also rush posting between watching the new TV series "Beef".

Being a heavyweight yes he'd be bigger and stronger today. I'd see it as less dramatic in lower divisions where they have to make weight.

The article doesn't separate....both terms are used in the same capacity.

Ok. For camp, not only does it seem a bit light to me, but also a pint of vanilla ice cream every night? That can't be, surely. Once a week maybe, but a pint every night? Louis metabolism must have been something truly spectacular in that case, because he always looked in top shape, hardly any fat even toward the end of his career.

You seem like a smart fellow, so it saddens me to have to inform you that pints of ice-cream are clinically and scientifically proven to give super powers. Well, when I say clinically and scientifically, I mean that everytime I inhale a pint of mint choc chip, I can tell the time without looking at a clock. To the second. Mainly because I can't move from the couch to find a clock.

So there is reason why Louis could punch with perfect form over six inches and knock people out.

Seamon was the trainer of the great Benny Leonard and how old was he---like 23 or something?

I take it you have no running experience. Go to any long distance race (just amateur stuff, regular runners doing this for fun/fitness) and you'll see a lot of unfit looking runners who can run long distance at a decent pace without an issue. You'll see chunky-looking soccer moms and dads running 5k's and 10k's without issue.

I'd bet you both of them can run 5mi without issue.

Today, they'd get Louis in a weight room, bulk him up, then strip off every ounce of fat and dry him out to make cruiser. He'd be a terror in that division.

I just love the simplicity of old-time training.

    1. Wake up
    2. Eat eggs
    3. Go back to bed
    4. Wake up again
    5. Run five miles
    6. Hit heavy bag
    7. Watch movies
    8. Go to bed

    And that **** WORKED.

U must be an exceptional old man. I don’t think many pro athletes do this much work. I don’t think boxers should do more than this either for long term success. There is such a thing as over training and draining ur body. It also apparently worked for Louis.

I don’t think it’s a lot. I think it’s not necessar to over do it. Runners run that daily for breakfast. But what they don’t do is walk that amount later on than do a two hour boxing work out along w it. There is such a thing as over training.

Conditioning is built up over time, with consistent effort, not by taking 6 months off then coming to the gym to prepare for a fight as a fat slob that hasn't thrown a punch since the end of your last fight. When you do that- when you have to not only lose 30 pounds but also learn how to box again- then you need to work really hard just to get back to fighting shape.
For most of his career Louis was very active, fighting regularly. He stayed in shape so he probably never needed to work himself back into condition.
