Have never understood the story behind that. The fight never got started. Something was up and don't know what it was. don't accept that Duran just quit for fear or being outclassed or out fought. doesn't add up.
:rofl He didn't destroy SRL it was a close fight. Quit making **** up just to be heard. Destroying someone is what Hearns did to Duran.:deal
Not really. Most fight fans remember him as an elite fighter and arguably the greatest lightweight ever. CASUAL fans might only remember him for no Mas but not regular fight fans.
:deal Duran beat the **** out of Leonard in the first fight and turned him into a runner Duran was expecting Leonard to give him a trilogy but he has no honor
Sure you were. You probably never saw the fight some press had SRL winning the fight. If you think Duran destroyed SRL in the first fight then what do you call what Hearns did to Duran? :yep
You don't have any credibility Kush when discussing boxing log off troll. If he beat the **** outta him the what do you call what Hearns did to Duran? A homicide:hi:
I disagree. Tyson biting Holyfield's ear is worse or equally bad. Liston quitting on his stool amounts to the same thing. Duran just happened to be more blatant about it, and considering his reputation, much more of a surprising act. I recently read a bio on Arcel and it pretty much blew his mind, because one of his core principals was to make sure he understood a fighter, no matter what. If the guy liked to party, he could deal with it if he knew about it, if a guy didn't like to train, he could deal with it if he knew about it, if a fighter didn't have power, he could make adjustments, but this just came out of left field.
I believe they fought until the 8th round. 2 judges had Leonard up by two points and one judge had Leonard up by only one point. But Duran ballooned up significantly between his first and second fight and even though he made weight, he was very weak in comparison to the first fight. Part of that was he came home as a national hero, they had a Roberto Duran day for him the whole nine years, and he essentially went on a 4-5 month party. So when the fight came, he simply wasn't ready. Leonard not only knew this, he planned the fight around it. Duran would likely have accepted just loosing, but then Leonard starting taunting him with bolo punches and things of that nature, and would hit and run, Duran got frustrated and said I'm not going to fight with this clown, and quite. The ref said Duran start fighting, and he said "no Mas". And that ended the fight.
Well for starters Hearns definitely destroyed Duran, that's an apples to oranges comparison. But Duran certainly hurt SRL repeatedly in the 2-4 rounds. But by the end of the fight, it was a close but still clear victory for Duran, as he simply won too many rounds near the beginning of the fight, for Leonard to over come, and many of the middle rounds were close. Interesting enough, there's a movie coming out soon, called Hands of Stone, which will likely deal with this.
