I remember so many people saying at the time that it was fixed, that Duran quit to set up a rubber match (boy that was a long time coming, and hardly a high-profile megafight) ... which to me made no sense. I mean, how does quitting make people want to see him fight Leonard again?
people are idiots with those kind of "fixed" theories its simple for anyone with a brain...... duran was getting schooled and embarrassed...and there was still 7 rounds to go and he was getting tired on top of that.....it wasnt gonna end well.....and he simply quit out of frustration.
atsch:-( "Leonard led by a small margin of 68-66, 68-66 and 67-66 on the judges scorecards at the time of the TKO." Have you watched the fight?
Duran took the second fight for the payday he didnt train hard enough and was out of shape. He won the fight which really matterd. Leonard won the second easy but duran let it happen. Both were great. End of. Looking forward to it. When does it start?
he would have won that 8th round to put him up 5 rounds to 3. thats schooling....and he was coming on....yes ive watched the fight moron, about 15 times or i wanted have dropped my 2 cents in. he was on his way to schooling him 12 rounds to 3 had duran not QUIT....he was getting absolutely CLOWNED :deal
I personally like duran better . Was he the bettee fighter its 50/50 but for me his carreer was better than leonards fighting bigger fighters. He was born to fight. No probs with peps who say leonard was better just my opinion.
that fight was not on the level. duran's manager sold him out to teach him a lesson. leonard and dundee's whole strategy was to get the rematch as soon as possible because they knew of duran's tendency to party and gain weight after fights. duran was not a very educated person and believed that he could not get out of that fight because of the contract his manager signed. when all things were equal...leonard got his ass kicked. he knew he couldn't beat duran straight up...so he settled for this.
the whole story is told in legendary nights and duran's biography. listen closely to what leonard, his brother and dundee all had to say. they have no shame in admitting how they intended to win the second fight. they knew they weren't getting a 100% ready duran.
yeah because he just got sooooo out of shape in just a few months..... wtf ever. that was a small factor, the main reason he got his a$$ kicked was leonard boxed this time and played with his head. quit blowing that story out of proportion...you make it sound like he had 30 days to lose 60 pounds or something atsch
