Duranimal got beat and humiliated and quit. His excuse of eating 2 hot steaks then drinking cold water has to be amongst the most pathetic excuses I've heard in league with Manny's gloves, socks and cramps. No excuses and we know he sure wanted that 10 million so please stop the nonsense.
then why did he fuc.king quit? he didnt know the damn score...he knew he was in for a long night of ass kicking and clowning
I don't understand why they had them talking to each other in a ring where it's probably tense for both. Why not a more relaxed atmosphere so they can give more well, thought out answers? I think Duran just quit. He couldn't handle being embarrassed like that. And he still couldn't admit it. I don't think he ever will.
I think SRL wanted to prove he was a fighter the first time they met and came off secomd best as a result. The second time he fought to win and did it the way he did because lets face it, some styles a fighter can be compettitive with and other styles give him grief! Anyone who says it was the same style that SRL used in both fights is just plain wrong cos its like chalk and cheese really. Duran made the weight and wasnt as gassed as much as he was frustrated at the clowning he was having to endure:deal
I don't doubt that Duran was having issues from having to lose all that weight. It does not change anything, thats on him. With the way SRL, fought him that night, even if he did not do that, I do not see the result changing. Leonard, fought the right fight, and was just too motivated. Watching part of that first fight again, only seen it on youtube. It jumps out how ferocious Duran is as always, but also how fast he was. The guy was just a monster in every way. The greatest lightweight that ever lived. Neither Hagler or Hearns, as Leonard said put him in that place when he was that young.
Because when you fight Ray Leonard, you have to fight him on his terms, not your own. Ray told Duran it was mind games. But it doesn't matter since it will be overlooked. Just like how people over look Ray saying that he decided to fight Hagler after Marvin told him he couldn't do it anymore. :-(
Yep back then you had to fight on SRL's terms use his gloves, ring size, location etc. Ask Hagler about it he said Mike Trainer and SRL made it clear you don't agree to our demands and there is no fight. Period.
For me im quiting does little to belittle durans leagacy if anything its made the both even more legendary
